Main Page: Vegan YouTubers

We are seeking volunteers to help fill in information about channels within the vegan YouTube directory. On this page, you will find a synopsis of how the directory is formatted, and instructions on how to update any data that must be obtained manually. To see an example of a table in the middle of updating click here.

We've also created a survey for vegan YouTube content creators so that their answers can be tabulated to help people understand where others stand on key issues that are useful with regards to discussion and progession as a movement.

Instructions

Step 1: Copy a table from the In need of updating section to work on and email activistjourneys@gmail.com to let me know so it can be taken off the wiki to prevent others from doing redundant work.

Step 2: Open up Google sheets and paste.

Step 3: Turn link sharing on for the file and email it when you're finished.

Data Types

Help is appreciated in filling in as little or as much of information as you feel comfortable (namely, it is perfectly accetable to cover only certain columns/channels, or to fill in content types and music genres without additional specifiers).

Make sure for privacy's sake that you only include that which the creator has made public themselves on their YouTube channel, even if other information is easily found on a linked website (unless you have their consent or intend to write a short important disclaimer). We'll make it clear how creators can email in to get information taken down, but also remember to use your best judgement.

The table below describes the properties and purpose of columns within the directory. The "Method of Acquisition" column serves to indicate whether the data in question is obtained exclusively via user input (manual), directly from YouTube (automatic), or a combination of both (hybrid; for situations where automatic acquisition is only possible occasionally, or in certain specific scenarios).

Column Name Method of Acquisition Possible Values Applicable to Which Sections Further Explanation/Notes

Canonical ID Automatic The string of text found in the channel link of the format "https://www.youtube.com/channel/[Canonical ID]" All Sections - All channels have such an ID; channels that are deleted, whose custom ID is known, and whose canonical ID is unknown and unrecoverable using external sources such as SocialBlade and WayBack Machine are not listed in the main directory and are documented elsewhere.

Category Definition
Intact The channel has at least one video.
Empty The channel has zero videos.
Deleted The channel no longer exists.
Vegan Videos At least 50% of the channel's videos pertain to veganism.
Music Videos At least 50% of the channel's videos are songs; this overrides the "Vegan Videos" category in cases where the channel mainly produces vegan-related music.
Other Videos At least 50% of the channel's videos belong in neither the "Vegan Videos" nor the "Music Videos" category.
Vegan User The channel's owner claims to be vegan, and there is no evidence to the contrary. This term applies to collaboration channels comprised of at least one vegan member.

This term applies to collaboration channels comprised of at least one quasi-vegan member and no vegan members.
Non-vegan User The channel's owner is unambiguously a non-vegan/malzoist/carnist. This term applies to collaboration channels comprised of exclusively non-vegan members.
English Language All of the channel's videos are in English.
Other Language At least one of the channel's videos is in a language other than English.
Active The channel's most recent video is no more than 60 days old (unless the channel has a clearly regular upload schedule where the time period between the release of each video is greater than 60 days).
Inactive The channel's most recent video is more than 60 days old (unless the channel has a clearly regular upload schedule where the time period between the release of each video is greater than 60 days).
