I screwed up really bad, and I need your guys' help

Ok, so for a bit of context, I have two dogs, one of which has been outside for a few months and recently my mum's boyfriend had basically kicked him and cared him when scratching at the door. I called the domestic violence hotline, and a few weeks later after another thing that happened, I called them again, but this time mentioned my dog's condition, and they told me to contact the RSPCA. But before that I researched the RSPCA and saw from some reddit posts, and I think Joey Carbstrong that the RSPCA were actually HORRIBLE, so I decided to not to contact them.

What I didn't know was that they'd send fucking RSPCA investigators to my house who are now talking to my mum outside. I really fucked up. What do I do? I didn't know how bad they were after I called them, but I still did something really bad. What do I do?

I thought you did not contact them?

If you didn't know and you contacted them and it wasn't the right thing to do in the end, then you only trusted an authority figure who should have been trustworthy; you didn't do anything unreasonable.

I don't know as much as some others on the forum about the RSPCA and the criticism of their handling of dog cases, so I'll leave that to somebody else. I don't think there's any reason to worry that you even did the wrong thing yet. See how the caseworker manages the situation. I'm sure like any large organization they have good and bad ones.

I didn't, but I think the woman who was on the phone with me must've sent them to my house because I described my dog's situation to them. To be clear, I wasn't calling the RSPCA, I was in the domestic violence helpine. The women there must have contacted them. But as I said, I wasn't aware of how bad they apparently are untill after I hung up the call.

So you didn't even do it. It sounds like you only did what you understood to be right, and the authorities made that call.

Did anything bad even come of this?

Sort of. Now the RSPCA are telling my mum to call them back, and they came to our place again yesterday because my mum hasn't contacted them. She's not good with phone calls.

I feel responsible now. I shouldn't have said all of those things to the hotline. But I did it because I was concerned about my dog, and my mum's wellbeing. I just didn't know it'd lead to this.

It doesn't sound like they're doing anything right now, and nothing bad may come of this. Regardless, you did what you believed to be right in trusting an authority. If you believed your mother was in danger then you probably did the right thing.
