How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Of course the comments think that it's actually criticizing the meat industry, not meat itself.

@Jebus It's better than I expected, but the numbers are way off. It costs *much* more than that to reach those standards. They seem to be doing some cherry picking of data to fit a narrative that the industry wants to save pennies, when in reality the costs would be several times higher than they're saying and people would just not be able to afford animal products more than a few times a year.

Increasing welfare like that only works along side radical reducetarianism that recognizes the price of animal products will skyrocket beyond regular access for most people.

That raises a good question: Is the lie more useful, because it could get more people behind welfare regulations who might not do it if they knew it would take meat off their plates -- and then after the fact surprise everybody by forcing them to be vegan 99% of the time? Or does the lie make people think there's an alternative to veganism, and make them anti-capitalists instead who will continue eating factory farmed meat until the communist revolution?

It kind of is the way they seem to be framing it. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but I'm getting and anti-capitalist vibe.

If the motives and message people perceive of it is anticapitalist in nature, I can't really see this video doing that much good (I wasn't fully paying attention to the video admittedly, I'm sure there are more anti-capitalist undertones than I initially detected). Maybe if it motivates more people to join in with the Humane League and support increasing welfare, but probably not. People will likely continue to eat meat regularly and do nothing to help out animal welfare on farms and just think that the government should do something about it.

I would figure they probably don't want to alienate their audience, so they play it like "Yeah this industry you buy from is bad, but it's not your fault, it's the big corporations."

As of right now, I think the best thing is just convince people to eat less meat, contact political representatives and these big companies regarding animal welfare, and donate to effective animal charities. I've talked about it a few weeks ago but the ethical reasons for the world moving towards veganism will almost certainly be secondary, those motivations are gonna be slapped on afterwards when it becomes easier to see the immorality of it.
