Best Off-Grid Uses for Solar?

brimstone brought this up in a thread a few months ago, discussing the versatile uses that Solar energy has, off-grid.

I think that Solar energy shines (pun intended) most with off-grid usage; Of course, there are instances where it's useful on-grid, as well as putting them on your roof, but I can think of many examples with off-grid.

You ever seen those ads for the guy with the Solar-battery pack they take with them on trips? I think that's an amazing idea, especially if you're in a place with no (or not enough) outlets like a car or the great outdoors. I've even seen a solar charger for the original Game Boy.

The main issue is, unless they are manufactured with CLEAN energy, they'll probably have a net increase in CO2 emissions. If that's accounted for though, this can serve so many places.
