During the short while I was very interested in (a)theism I thought Dillahunty's Iron Chariots Wiki (http://wiki.ironchariots.org) was a great resource. It serves an interesting function as a go-to place for atheists that are stumped in a discussion. I think veganism (and other causes, such as pronuclearism and effective altruism) could benefit something similar. Not for a lack of information, but a huge flood of misinformation. This forum is a place where people can get good information, but it's a very different process: searching for information is not very practical on a forum like this, so you make a new topic to ask for help or start a discussion. That's great, but I think a wiki would be more accessible and linkable, adding to the informative function of this forum.
Now, there is a vegan wiki out there (http://vegan.wikia.com/wiki/Vegan_Wiki), but I have a couple of objections to it:
- It looks very unprofessional
- It perpetuates some myths, like the myth that animal protein causes calcium to be leeched out of the bones
- It's very incomplete. http://vegan.wikia.com/wiki/The_use_of_non-human_animal_products_as_food_causes_suffering
What do you guys think of creating a wiki (or other sort of informational website) linked to this forum? I would be willing to put in a few hours of work a week into it. We could focus on veganism first, and perhaps branch out to covering some other topics.
