Philosophical Vegan Forum

Hi all!

I've been watching vegan atheist's videos for several years now and I finally decided to join the forum (after being banned on facebook.)

So a little about me:

I'm in my 20s, female, living with my mom and dad in Queens, NYC
I completed college in Dec. 2013 and have been working full time. I paid off my student loans recently so that's a plus!

I'm from Bangladesh, a majority Islamic nation, but I follow Hinduism.

I am agnostic atheist, meaning I don't believe in a god, but can't absolutely say for certain that a higher power doesn't exist to sustain our universe.
My diet is primarily vegetarian and I have been struggling to become vegan. My weakness is ICE CREAM and CHOCOLATE

I am also a capitalist, believing in free market economy. I think it will be our gate to liberating the animals and the best way this world can slowly become vegetarian/vegan - is through free market capitalism.

As for my political view, I lean towards the lower right hand side of the political square spectrum; Libertarian if you will. I believe in complete freedom of religion, choice, expression, speech, and so on. I believe in lower tax, fewer regulations (on the fed level) and freedom to do anything and everything as long as it doesn't harm anybody in the process.

Any questions as to why I have such contradicting labels, please don't hesitate to reach out!

I hope to engage in a lot of political, economic, and religious discussion (especially on Hinduism.) I will do my best to erase or correct any form of misconception. Thank you for your time!

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing your insights in discussions. Do you have access to a Trader Joe's in Queens? TJ's Soy-Creamy is the best-ever brand of vegan ice-cream and I highly recommend it. Large supermarkets generally have some kind of nondairy ice-cream, like So Delicious.

Thank you! I will be exploring some options along with other snacks I munch on in between to satisfy my sweet tooth.

What do you mean by following Hinduism but are agnostic atheist?

Do you lean more on the side of you not knowing but it could be possible vs merely on the basis of a technicality that you can't prove non existence and that it is similar to leprechauns or the FSM existing?

It wasn't pleasant. I remember leaving my family; I was extremely sad and cried. However I've grown fond of the American culture and I am as American as it gets

Bangladeshi people are generally to themselves and somewhat open minded compared to other muslim nations. However, it's still fundamentally Islamic and they are very sensitive to religious criticism. There are blasphemy laws in place, and usual mob-mentality where street justice is a norm. Hindu and atheist professors are extremely afraid to speak their minds due to the majority muslim population.

Not to long away, and atheist Bangladeshi wrote a blog criticizing Islam and he was hacked to death with a machete.

I'm very thankful to USA and Americans for accepting us with open arms and providing the opportunities and freedom that we lacked in Bangladesh.

Hinduism is a dynamic relgion which houses all forms of philosohies under one umbrella. There are different schools of thought, supported by the main scripture, which promotes atheism.

I follow Hinduism in the sense that I believe in reincarnation, karma, dharma, and nirvana (not the band, the moksha.)

I lean on the side of 'I dont BELIEVE that a god exists.....But I'm not claiming that because I might be wrong. "

Why do you believe in reincarnation, karma, dharma, nirvana, etc.? Do you feel these have evidence, or would you fairly classify yourself as agnostic to them, yet leaning toward belief out of habit or faith?
