Hi everybody. Has anyone heard about/read Denise Minger's book on nutrition? Denise Minger is the girl popular for her 'debunking' of Campbell's China Study. She's not vegan anymore, but I heard that her book is a balanced interesting work.

She's no trained expert AFAIK. Plant positive had done a debunking of some of her work, check it out. http://plantpositive.com/blog/2012/3/26/response-to-denise-minger-1-scrupulous.html

Hi Darl, as Garreth said, Plant Positive has an excellent debunking of Minger's irresponsible advocacy of saturated fat/cholesterol. She doesn't understand science, and is by no means any kind of expert, qualified or otherwise.
She's just a pretty girl telling people what they want to hear -- like, to eat bacon/butter etc.
Anybody advocating unhealthy foods as healthy is going to create quite a following. It's just like religion; people seek out the lies they want to believe.

Thank you guys. I wasn't familiar with Plant positive. I'll definitely check his own 'debunking' too. I have read several books on nutrition but I wish I could find a good comprehensive work on the topic. Many of them seem to be very biased. I don't eat meat mostly because of ethical reasons so I don't really care about books specifically aimed at vegans. Too bad Minger's work doesn't live up to expectations. By the way, I've almost finished reading Singer's Animal liberation as you suggested me in my other thread on morality. Good book.

Michael Greger is releasing a book very soon called "How Not To Die", that will probably be very good and science-based. I'll probably read it when it comes out, then I can give a more informed recommendation.

Idk about comprehensive works on the topic but many studies have shown how a plant based diet in itself has advantages in terms of disease risks/rates. I think gregger of nutritionfacts.org has also covered some of this.
