Shower Thoughts

Post by Red »

Y'know how when you're feeling really philisophical and start coming up with some deep, intelectual gold? Well, (if this post doesn't get completely ignored) share you're deep philosophical thoughts here!

I'll start..

Humans are evolution's biggest mistake. (or is?)

Somewhere in the universe, the greatest scientists, comedians, prodigies, etc. are probably the biggest jokes when compared to other possible alien species.

Your granny was young and hot once.

I know it's a total waste of money to buy virtual items, but why are they so important to me?

I am indifferent to AdBlock.

We still have never came up with a flu vaccine.

Why is everyone on /r/atheism an instigator?

If humans begin to develop more sexual traits during puberty, does that mean we originally evolved to have sex at a younger age?

Do the parents of offspring care about their young, or don't want them to die so the species can prosper?

Everything you do right now was caused by a chain of events. Be thankful for those chains of events.

What is a douchebag to a douchebag?

Why is Kanye West considered arrogant, when arrogance goes to almost every single celebrity?

I consider a walk through Yosemite Park more valuable than any passtime.

I wonder what it would be like to live on a Supercontinent?

I find it weird that the majority seems to hate one thing, but at the same time, the hated subject has more followers than anything else.

Not sure if something is losing popularity, or I think that because I don't pay attention to thing anymore.

I wonder if we're being studied by aliens?

I wonder what Spartans would do if you offered help to them.

Tests 90% if the time test memory, which you will forget when moving on to the next chapter because you have to start learning new material.

If we invented words, doesn't that mean we can make them mean whatever we want them to mean?

Why is the english language full of exceptions? In Italian they say every letter in the word.

How does one earn arrogance from being good at a video game?

Why do people on Call of Duty get mad when someone uses a Sniper how it's supposed to be used?

Realistic video games limit the developer's imaginations, so they can't add whatever the hell they want.

Why do we censor tits when pretty much everyone sucked on them at one point?

That's all I got for now, I'll add more as soon as I get more.
Anyways, tell me what you think!!!!!!!!!

we'd know for certain if there are aliens.

If the Universe is infinite... Why the hell can't I find a bloody Milky Way? That can mean two things

Humans are evolution's biggest mistake. (or is?)

Evolution isn't really goal oriented in that sense, it's just about survival of genes.

Somewhere in the universe, the greatest scientists, comedians, prodigies, etc. are probably the biggest jokes when compared to other possible alien species.

Them being more advanced wouldn't make our effort jokes. We don't consider that of Newton, regardless of how wrong he was, for example.

We still have never came up with a flu vaccine.

Yes we have. There are multiple strains.
Get "flublok", it's egg-free.

If humans begin to develop more sexual traits during puberty, does that mean we originally evolved to have sex at a younger age?

In a sense, yes.

Do the parents of offspring care about their young, or don't want them to die so the species can prosper?

They care about their young. Parents aren't that meta.

Everything you do right now was caused by a chain of events. Be thankful for those chains of events.

Causality is actually rather weak in the grand scheme; see the butterfly effect. Much of what we do is based on chaotic fuctions, and those can have causes rooted in quantum physics which is purely random and uncaused.

I wonder what it would be like to live on a Supercontinent?

Terrible monsoons on the coast, and a likely intolerable desert inland.

I wonder if we're being studied by aliens?

Unlikely. We're not that interesting, and it would take a lot of trouble to get here given the vast distances to the nearest likely life bearing planets.

If we invented words, doesn't that mean we can make them mean whatever we want them to mean?

Only if you invented the word yourself (coined it). Otherwise, you have to play by the rules of language, which are based on a kind of consensus.

Why is the english language full of exceptions? In Italian they say every letter in the word.

Because it steals words from other languages then mispronounces them.

I know that, I meant it in the sense that evolution birthed us as a species. I wrote this months ago, so I don't have the same opinions on these things as before.

I never said our efforts were worthless, I just meant that we're nothing compared to what could be out there. Doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

How the fuck did I miss this?

Is that why Japan has the age restriction on sex 13?
brimstoneSalad wrote: They care about their young. Parents aren't that meta.
Are you sure?

Well my dad knows chaos theory, maybe I'll ask him.

That actually sounds interesting.

Wellthat sucks.

What about in the privacy of my own home (or with a group of friends)?

I know that, but why with the mispronunciations?

Many countries set the limit to what they guess puberty occurs at. And yes, this is basically the cultural reason.

Yes.

If you all agree to it, but then what you've done is created a new language, or a cant:

RedAppleGP wrote: I know that, but why with the mispronunciations?
Different languages employ different phonemes and combinations thereof, and it's hard for users of any language to pick up a radically different sound that doesn't usually occur in that language. Basically an accent that became canonical because everybody using the language said it that way for a long time

Well that makes sense.

...Positive?

So technically I speak 3 1/2 languages?

Yes.

If you want, I guess, that's not meaningful, though. You can't really quantify languages like that. Breadth and depth are not binary matters, and like ring species, there are "languages" that are largely mutually intelligible.
RedAppleGP wrote:So accents change pronunciation?
Both regionally, and due to the language being a second language, yes. Like the difference between British and American English.
