It was between a friend, is that OK?
I mean I already gave the money, I highly doubt he's gonna give it back.

I was anticipating a huge election upset, since I was pretty skeptical of polls. My rationale for it was, if Trump wins, hey at least I get $500.

brimstoneSalad wrote: Sun Nov 08, 2020 3:10 pmKind of curious how much you won.
It actually turned out being a bit of a disappointment. After Trump won Florida and had the lead in a bunch of other states, I got cold feet and sold a large chunk of my Biden money. I wish CNN had explained that most of the states where Trump was leading started counting in-person votes and finished with the mail-in ballots. I ended up winning about $6500 but it could have been a lot more.

True that it is illegal for Americans to vote on presidential elections.

On Betfair the market crushed all previous records, netting more than the Soccer World Cup, NBA final, Super Bowl, and World Series combined.

Some British dude bet a million pounds on Biden the day before the election.

I should add that the market hasn't been settled yet. One can still get 1.05 on a Biden win.

@Jebus Was probably a safe move, but you still came out with a pretty chunk of change.

I think you meant 'bet' instead of vote, and as I look more into it this seems to be the case. I usually don't make bets, I was just pretty confident about this one.

True that. Would be great if it were illegal for Americans to vote on their own elections. The world would be a better place.

Who did you bet on?

Ah, yeah, the Biden campaign was VERY confident that they had Pennsylvania in the bag even with Trump's early lead, we found out why pretty quickly.

Sorry you didn't win more, that's a pretty good net though. It was still pretty uncertain until the votes started coming in for Pennsylvania, at which point the trajectory got pretty clear. You didn't necessarily make a bad call if you needed that money.

Naturally that's what we get when Trump is telling his supporters that mail in votes are bad; they're going to go to the polls and not mail in their votes. In hind sight it's very obvious, but it wasn't at the time.

That too. I'd probably petition that other countries should be able to participate in US elections because of the US's role on the world stage.

Well I didn't look at any markets, I was just anticipating a huge upset so I bet my fat friend $500 bucks.

I didn't want Trump to win of course, I was just expecting him to.

BTW @brimstoneSalad Are you happy that you were wrong about Trump probably winning?
