Right. Grass is evil. Kill it with fire*. ;)

*Don't actually kill it with fire, that would probably be illegal.

I don't think using lawn treatments is a good idea though.

What is wrong with grass? Just that it's inefficient use of land area?

Agricultural input (fertilizer, pesticide, water) with no output... aside arguably from insects.

Unless you eat the grass. You could use a juicer if it's an edible variety (there are some that can be juiced with specialized grass juicers).

Then how do you recommend I exterminate my grass?

Well sorry that when I wake up, I like to look at a moist, dark green army of grass that is my lawn.

That Unnatural Vegan video sure was a good advertisement. Great to see all the new faces. I hope some will stick around.

I expect at least 100 new members. My only question is which ones will stay, and which ones will leave?

Just mow it and let local plants slowly take over? Local wild plants are more robust, and don't require watering or fertilizers, etc. You can also buy seed.

In the front lawn in particular, there are probably local ordinances you have to deal with. You may be able to find an alternative lawn treatment that is acceptable in your area.

Here are the first couple links I got off Google:
http://eartheasy.com/grow_lawn_alternatives.htm
http://www.planetnatural.com/organic-lawn-care-101/alternatives/

Here's the US EPA on yards:

Here's a brochure that seems to say most of the same stuff:

How about an army of clover or wildflowers, mulch, gravel, and paving stones? And maybe a bird bath or something.

And have my lawn get overtaken by clovers? Thanks but no thanks. I don't want my lawn to look like my neighbors.

brimstoneSalad wrote: or wildflowers,
I've already planted some like 2 weeks ago. We're focuing on my grass here.
brimstoneSalad wrote: mulch,
I already have that for the tree and the surrounding plants in my backyard.
brimstoneSalad wrote: gravel,
I don't like gravel. It's rough, it's coarse, it's irritating, and it gets everywhere. Not like dirt or the aforementioned mulch.
brimstoneSalad wrote:and paving stones?
I already got those too. Unless you mean onto my garden/lawn, not just around it.
brimstoneSalad wrote: And maybe a bird bath or something.
Eh, almost everyone else has a birdbath on my block, so I think it'd be a bit of overkill.

Astro turf maybe? Personally, I prefer desert landscaping. Nicely raked sand, cacti, stones placed strategically, no maintenance. If the sight of green plants
Alcohol may have been a factor.
