I will be able to record this letter, but I will not be able to start recording before the 18th.

That's great news, thanks!

I don't know how much of it is down to me being self conscious and how much is a legitimate speech impediment, but I have a mild lisp. although this will not make the letter illegible, it may take away from the entertainment and argumentative value to the video. Is it worth continuing the recording of the letter.

Post a bit of what you have, and we'll let you know.

99% of the time a little practice can clear up speech issues.

any advise on clearing up lisp's (outside of spending more time with your grandpa, who happens to be a retired English teacher) would be greatly appreciated.

That should be easy to clear up with a few hours of practice over a few days.

There are also a bunch of random speech therapists on youtube:

You just have to focus and practice over a few days on hard words, and then it will start changing your habit. You'll be able to record the video before you can consistently enunciate in everyday speech, but I'd recommend continuing to practice if you want to change the habit.

You're also having trouble with the hard "r" at the end of some words. Do you come from an area with a non-rhotic accent? It seems like you're conscious of this, because you pronounced the "r" clearly in "dear" at the beginning. It just needs some concentration.
The only other thing is some of the "L" sounds at the ends of words, like "will"; this is a similar issue as with "r" sounds. I'm guessing you can, but just need to focus on the ends of words to enunciate better.

Otherwise quite good. There's no mumbling (a lot of people tend to do that), and your pronunciation is pretty clear.

I have recorded about 1/4 of the letter (8 minutes) and my microphone has broken. my options are to finish the letter with my laptop mic and hope that I can enhance the audio enough with various effects, or buy a new mic in which case I will finish the recording next weekend.

Great news. If you're planning to do more videos on the future, I'd definitely buy a new mic. Although that link isn't loading for me right now, so I have no idea what kind of money you're talking about. You'd better ask an expert about the quality you really need, that's not my forte.

the microphone is a "Samson Meteor USB Studio Microphone" I have looked into a few reviews and they seem to agree that its a good mic for vocals, but not ideal for music. it is about $50 cheaper than the blue yeti and does not seem to make a noticeable difference, probably worth more to an unemployed 17 year old than most others here. I do plan on making more video's/pod cast's and maybe recording forum projects the vegan atheist deems to long.

If you're planning to do more videos, podcasts, etc. it's definitely a good investment to have a quality mic.

Looks like you did your research.
