It lasts the whole day once I've used it. I've tried using a smaller dose before but rather than working for a shorter period of time it just works worse.

It must be some kind of time release formula, or just a type of corticosteroid binds really tightly to receptors and doesn't let go all day/is really stable.

You may want to talk to your doctor, and look into other options. That could be the safest, but one that doesn't last as long might be better.
That, and look into the other options I mentioned.
