I don't sweat sweat the small stuff. Veganism is about animal suffering, not a purity ritual like in some religions (like some followers of Hinduism, meat consumption is treated as purity pollution). What goes into your mouth is less important than what comes out of it - In terms of activism and getting people to make the switch to more compassionate stances that reduce animal suffering.

I've been around 95% vegan since going vegan a year ago but have also influenced 3 people in going vegan and 1 vegetarian.

Hmm, I notice that my molasses and maple syrup are labeled in tiny letters that they are 'not significant sources' of cholesterol (among other things), which I think would imply that they do contain cholesterol (and therefore animal products).

Or maybe it's another way of saying there may be trace amounts due to the products being processed on equipment with things that contain cholesterol... But I don't think so, because the only products the molasses company makes are molasses.
Why would they put animal products in the molasses...? >.<

Apparently, a tiny fraction of maple syrup companies use lard to reduce foaming (as opposed to vegetable oil), but if labeled kosher (it is), there isn't supposed to be any. :?

L10. If the nutrients that are required to be included on the Nutrition Facts label are present at 0 grams per serving, when can they be summarized in a sentence? Can more than one nutrient be included in the sentence?
Answer: The nutrients listed below may be omitted from the list of nutrients and included in a single sentence when present at “zero” levels in a food. This is done by putting the label statement (“Not a significant source of _________”) immediately below the listing of vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron. When the statement “Not a significant source of_____________” is used for more than one nutrient, nutrients must be listed in the order in which they would have been listed in the regular format (e.g., “Not a significant source of calories from fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, dietary fiber, sugars, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron”). The footnote can be used, with any format, to list one or more of the following nutrients: (21 CFR 101.9(c))
It's just a labeling thing they're allowed to do to save space on the packaging and not make it so crowded.

^Oh, interesting, so the molasses and maple syrup are probably fine.

Some things might not be, though. Apparently, if there are less than 2mg of cholesterol a serving of a product, it can be considered 'not a significant source' of cholesterol.

It happened to me just a few days ago, my mother bought spring rolls for supper, i asked her if they contained meat to which she replied that it didn't, that they were "traditional" spring rolls, and i believed her, I bite one and it had ham. Not much but still, ham it was. I got so dissapointed, i love spring rolls xD
