Cactus "leather"
I've come across an article about two guys producing vegan leather from cacti. I think the idea is brilliant, even though it's only partially biodegradable. You can read the article here (in case someone may think it's spamming, it's not my blog) https://mymodernmet.com/vegan-cactus-le ... 3VpBwco-ug

I think I heard of that.
It's actually preferable that stuff isn't biodegradable, because if it's biodegradable it will become methane in a landfill.
The more important benefit it that production is low carbon, which cactus would be a lot better than cow hide or plastic.

Sounds good. Plenty cactus here in Chile as well, all over the hillsides, very common

Is there anything that degrades without emitting methane?brimstoneSalad wrote: ↑Fri Mar 12, 2021 2:06 am I think I heard of that.

Aerobic biodegradation. Make sure to keep the compost bin shallow and keep turning it to keep is aerated.AngelinaLosik wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 11:27 am Is there anything that degrades without emitting methane?![]()
Also, in some circumstances there's methane emission but also carbon capture, as in acidic peat bogs, which may help compensate for the methane emission.
What do you think @Jamie in Chile ?
