Well you're not really being an instigator when you're just asking a question like that..

Re: Dissecting Animals (science class)
Well, it's finally dissection time in my school.
Interestingly, my science teacher talked briefly about respecting the animals bodies during dissection (don't just make a joke out of it, or whatever).
I like that she said that, but the animals are still being killed... Does it really matter what we do with their dead bodies?
Animals do have to be killed for them, but it's a one time thing, right (I was going to do one instead of an actual dissection)?

Are you aware that virtual dissections are widely available? Or is there something wrong with them?brimstoneSalad wrote:Talk to your teacher, or the administration. Be clear with them that you object for "religious" reasons due to being against violence to animals.
You will be given an alternate assignment.
The alternate assignment will be a lot harder than the dissection (it will be something like an essay or research assignment). Mostly just because dissections are really easy.

Well I guess it's fine if the meat is expired or is not safe to eat in the first place, I guess.EquALLity wrote:I like that she said that, but the animals are still being killed... Does it really matter what we do with their dead bodies?

Not really. After the fact "respect" is pretty meaningless to the animals, and probably just a way for people to gratify their consciences. "We're such good people! We kill animals but we're respectful afterwards so that makes up for it!"EquALLity wrote: I like that she said that, but the animals are still being killed... It's almost like adding insult to injury in pretending that means anything.
If they're available at your school as an option, that should be fine.EquALLity wrote: Are you aware that virtual dissections are widely available? Or is there something wrong with them?
It sounds like it's more like animal testing than like meat, since it just has to be done a few times for each new product.EquALLity wrote:Animals do have to be killed for them, but it's a one time thing, right (I was going to do one instead of an actual dissection)?
Something 3d rather than film based might be a lot better.

I agree to an extent, but I do think it's better than nothing.brimstoneSalad wrote:Not really. 3d graphics, like a video game. Never using the real thing.EquALLity wrote:What do you mean?brimstoneSalad wrote:Something 3d rather than film based might be a lot better.
