Dissecting Animals (science class)

Post by Red »

So next week in science class we will be dissecting an animal, i think it was part of an animal like the liver. Anyways, this lab is like 35 percent of my grade, and if I don't do it, I pretty much have failed the course. However, if I do it, it goes against everything i have stood for during the past 3 months or so. I always wanted to do a dissection, but as i have changed my views about animal use and consumption, i am starting to rethink it.. am i screwed?

You could try emailing your teacher.

Is it a group dissection or does each person get their own liver?

Talk to your teacher, or the administration. Be clear with them that you object for "religious" reasons due to being against violence to animals.
You will be given an alternate assignment.

The alternate assignment will be a lot harder than the dissection (it will be something like an essay or research assignment). Mostly just because dissections are really easy.

You live in America so you have rights YAY!
You need to go to your health department and ask them for a religious exemption paper, in my state it is a blue piece of paper that you need to ask for...
Once you get that paper you fill it out and give it back to your health department..

Now you are able to religiously refuse the dissecting course and there is nothing that your school can do about it but; you need to sign that paper!

Go to your health department and they will know exactly what you are talking about..

You are welcome :)

I've already signed the paper in my state!

Well I did do what you said, and they gave me a project to do about Gregor Mendel's discoveries. I got an A-. Your plan totally backfired.

Whose plan? And how did that backfire if you got an A?

Like I said, it would be a harder assignment than the dissection.

Hm, that's nice, she's apparently totally willing to accommodate.

What does she mean when she says that the alternatives are not the same, though? What is this, a subtle way of saying that the alternatives are inferior, therefore dissection is justified? :?

I can't help but get that impression...

Hm. I guess Dr. derpbutt is trying to say that physically dissecting something will be able to accomplish more then virtual computerized disecting.
