Hello fredericlavender,

Wouldn't it be less harmful overall for someone to eat an oyster rather than veal? Just in terms of overall, identifiable suffering?

Sorry, less harmful to who? The animal, the person eating it or to the environment?

The vegan position on oysters is really rooted in religious ideology. Veganism has roots in religious thinking, it was derived from western vegetarianism which was imported from eastern religion into the west. This thinking was imported into the west prior to major achievements in biology so the ideas weren't as anti-scientific as they are today. What is surprising is that the ideas have persistent for so long despite numerous advancements in biology. But there is a name for that sort of thing, namely, dogma.
