It's a harm that we discourage some of their playful, curious nature in training. If we could legislate use to the letter, and had resources to allocate, we could enforce something utopian like need to hire far more animal training psychologists as police officers who can then form a bond with the puppy from birth to death so never has to sleep in police kennel overnight, get's fussed constantly, etc. etc.VGnizm wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2017 12:27 am Many thanks to all for providing so much valuable insight.
A question that comes to mind is the use of police dogs to screen for weapons or drugs. What would be the Vegan approach to this? Is there a philosophical framework that would justify such a type of relationship since generally these animals are well cared for. Not out of sentience but rather out of need?

Most rights based frameworks would forbid something like that, but welfare allows for it if the dogs are well cared for.VGnizm wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2017 12:27 am A question that comes to mind is the use of police dogs to screen for weapons or drugs. NonZeroSum had some interesting thoughts above on how to make that happen.
