Which is the best YouTube video to show to my omnivore friends

Post by Take5 »

Hi folks

I'm off on a walking weekend tomorrow along with 30 other guys - all but one of them omnis. I've only (in the last hour) discovered how to download YT videos, and I've downloaded 'Land of Hope and Glory' with a view to showing some of my friends why I'm vegan.

Hopefully, I'll get several people interested - and then who knows?

ATM I can only download YT vids - my question is, which, out of the thousands, would be the most persuasive? I'll be having a look around this evening, but any input would be much appreciated!

TIA!

If you're looking for something brief with shock value I'd recommend this (it's a brief compilation)

I'd also recommend this if people have thoughts about 'ethical farming' , it may help them realise animals have complex emotions

Thanks, brim and DrS

Downloaded them all except your first one, DrS, which required a Google sign in.

Should be enough to start a conversation over the weekend! :)

I'll come back and tell you how it went.

If your friends drink cow milk, you should show them this James Aspey speech:

1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Hi folks - taken a while to get round to this, I had a busy few days.

You'll be happy to know I had a great weekend. The weather, the walks, the company, the food, the drinks - all brilliant!

And, more importantly, I had some real success on the vegan front. For the first time since I've been coming to these weekends (every 6 months, 32 of them now), I had two friends who also ate vegan, both in the centre, and in the pubs we visited. (And, the son of one of those guys, who had to pull out at the last minute, would have joined us in eating vegan!) So the seeds I've been sowing for a while, now, are starting to bear fruit. Several others came up to me over the weekend and told me they had greatly reduced their intake of meat products and were eating many more veggie meals, which was great to hear.

I was able to show a couple of the shorter videos with a small audience, and I had great success with the video 'How not to die' by Dr Greger. 6 people watched over an hour of that - and a couple stayed right to the end. I've promised to send out the links to all the videos - and then it's up to them.

One notable success was when one of my omni friends said he couldn't face eating the cheese and biscuits which were served after the Saturday meal, after seeing the James Aspen video. I had a couple of other videos running at times, where people were coming and going - people stayed for a little while before moving on.

I proposed that on the next weekend, next June, one of the two evening meals we have should be vegan - a vote was taken, and I'm afraid it went 3:1 against. But we'll keep pushing.

So, thanks, guys - it was well worth doing. :D

Thanks for the update, it's good to hear it went well and there was interest.

Hopefully you can make some progress on that vote!
Maybe you can bring some food to share for some food evangelism?

That's great. Congrats!

Did anyone react negatively, i.e. "why are you making us watch this nonsense propaganda?"

Very little negativity - the videos were sort of 'opt-in'. The only negative reaction came when we we were deciding whether to have a vegetarian meal next time, or not.

One guy said he was 'Fed up' with me going on and on about it - 'My wife is a veggie and I know just how tasty veggie food can be - I just want meat with my meals.' We had a chat (and a hug - it's that sort of group) afterwards.

I think there's enough veggie support to have an alternative next time - whether that's prepared before or cooked at the centre. Although I could see a bit of tension in a small YHA hostel kitchen if two meals are being prepared at the same time. We'll see.

Definitely making progress, though.

Thinking of taking Dr Milton Mills 'Humans are herbivores' next time, as an appeal to logic. But any other suggestions will be very welcome.

Thanks again, guys! (We need a thumbs-up emoticon)

On a side note, I heard yesterday that one of my great-nieces (15yrs-old) and her friend, had just gone full on vegan! Her mum's been a lifelong veggie, so there's been no hassle.

Very pleasing to hear. :)
