Thoughts on Non-Vegan Gifts

Post by RaspbeckyBeret »

Hey, guys. I was wondering, what are your thoughts on non-vegan gifts? Assuming you cannot refuse the gift, what do you think is the best way to handle the situation? Do you give it to a friend? Since someone has already purchased the product and contributed to the industry, do you think it is okay to eat/use that product (rather than wasting it)? What is your rationale?

What gifts have you received?

Yes, usually giving them to somebody else is the best way to go about it. That will prevent that person from buying more of whatever it is.

I would probably thank them for the gift but not accept it.

So you'd tell the other person you gave the gift to someone else?

When you can not refuse the gift, that's not an option.

If the giver asks. I meant that the person or people people you give it to won't buy something like that.

Let's say you got a basket of cheese. If you give it to somebody who normally eats cheese, that person won't buy cheese for a while.

That's a good way of looking at it! I hadn't thought of that.

I received some gifts from my mom (from the US). She sent me some of my old favorites which are not vegan. I've given away some items, but other things I know my friends will not want (namely candy corn pumpkins). I feel unappreciative of the time, money, and care my mom put into the package :( It was very expensive to send. I'm not sure how to communicate to my mom in the future that I don't eat those foods anymore.

Here is one way of dealing with it:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=677&p=6552&hilit
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.
