Apparently nearly half of one test group had been exposed.
Unfortunately, as a retrovirus, once it's in you it's probably there to stay.
In this case "go vegan" is more of a preventative measure to avoid future exposure from milk or meat.

It's just another indication that, from a perspective of viral pathology, it's just not a good idea to eat excretions or pieces of our close relatives like that. Plants and fungi are far safer.
