Vegan Diet and Cavities?

I have not had a single cavity until I went vegetarian, and now I got a second one since I went vegan. I don't have dental insurance and cannot afford tooth decay.

It's not fruit, because I only started eating more fruit recently. is there anything I can do to prevent any more cavities? I am already going to start buying mouthwash and the like.

Any tips/suggestions?

Probably coincidence. Dental carries take months or years to develop; you were probably on your way to developing them before you went vegan.

Is it in between teeth, or on the flat of your teeth? The former means you need to floss more. Mouth wash is definitely critical. Make sure to use fluoride, since it hardens the enamel and makes it more resistant to acid. Sugar free gum may also help (after meals). Extra brand is good, just not the polar ice (the crystals are made from gelatin).

I never get cavities. Well over a decade vegan, no issues. I rarely eat fruit, and I brush after pretty much every meal.
I know Unnatural Vegan has had many when she was eating a lot of fruit, due to the acids and sugars, and for some bizarre reason (because she was temporarily retarded) she apparently only brushed with water.

The more fruits and sugar you eat, the more you have to up your game in terms of dental care.

Any sugar or (to a lesser extent) starch in your diet will make you more likely to develop cavities if you don't take basic precautions. Any time I eat something sugary I rinse my mouth out at the very least with water, but really I like to rinse with green tea. Green tea has anti microbial properties that make it as effective as mouthwash (according to a nutritionfacts video I saw) and also naturally contains fluoride, making it pretty good for dental health. So that's become a big part of my daily habit, especially when I drink a smoothie I always make sure to swish with green tea afterwards. I brush with toothpaste too of course.
