Mushrooms and other food I dislike

Post by Quant_umm »

I used to think mustard was gross, but now if its not on my sandwich, if feels so lonely.
I don't like mushrooms, i don't like brussel sprouts, raw tomatoes, and plain tofu. The thing is I would really love to learn how to like them.
A lot of food which looks good, i am sometimes scared away bc of these ingredients. Ive tried eating tofu and tomatoes on multiple occasions but i still cant get to enjoying them.
Maybe they're not worth my time to learn to eat? But I think they're healthy.
When this problem arises, what can i do?
I know i can do it because i did it with mustard. What are some good ways of incorporating these ingredients or cooling them in order for me to start liking them.
Thanks!

I can't really help you with any recipes, but from a nutricional standpoint tomato juice may actually be healthier than the whole fruit, mushrooms are fantastic because they are one of the few 'vegetables' to contain ergothioneine and mustard is lovely on brussel sprouts (it churns out their sulforaphane). Tofu is not a great. If you don't like it you could eat something else in my opinion. However, when I cook it I do something like this http://www.shelikesfood.com/1/post/2014/08/anti-inflammatory-rice-bowls-turmeric-marinated-tofu.html

If you like some of these things cooked, then you could cook them less and less until they're raw. Just a gradual process.

However, cooked tomatoes are probably much healthier than raw, so I would recommend cooking them a little anyway (after you get used to them raw) for most uses.

Mushrooms: Chop them up small and include a little bit in things, and slowly increase the amount over many weeks.
