I just discovered TVP

Post by ThatNerdyScienceGirl »

Now when I heard Unnatural Vegan and others talk about it, I was skeptical. I mean, it can't taste that good, right?

I just had 1/4 cup mixed inside a bowl of cereal. I can probably eat it by itself as a cereal, although to be honest I would rather not. But as a inclusion in cereal, soup, etc? I can do it.

I got the Fearn brand from my local healthfood store, (as well as some flax seed for like, 2 dollars a pound). 1/4 cup of this is like, 22 grams of protein, which is awesome! And all I was doing was looking for some Tofu.

Have you tried TVP? If so, what do you think?

That's great!
I don't remember where I learned about TVP from, but I've been eating it for years. I helped put UV onto it. The cycle continues! :-D

Spread the good news! Soon the whole world shall know the wonders of TVP.

I've also put a few meat eaters onto it, and now they prefer it to ground beef because it's more convenient.

Quick question: My form of TVP are from fearn, they are called Soya Granules, or soy chunks. It does not mention that it has any fortification or vitamin content aside from Iron and some Calcium. Regular non-fortified TVP has a TON of vitamins and minerals, and even dry soybeans have a lot of vitamins and minerals. So how would I plug that into Cronometer? Because Fearn soya granules have more protein per 150 calories than regular TVP?

Just put in regular unfortified TVP, it should be pretty close. I don't know that brand, but it shouldn't be very different.
You can add in calcium and iron, which it is fortified with, as a separate item.
