Background:
- I used to take antidepressants, but stopped because I felt I no longer needed them
- When I took them, they helped me stay functional and reasonable
- I am beginning to feel stressed and am seeing myself begin to tip over back to depression
Question:
- Should I take antidepressants?
- If not, what other ways should I deal with my depression.
- If so, would this be vegan?
- Why or why not?
Notes:
- The term vegan will be defined as one who seeks to exclude the use and exploitation of sentient beings and their environments wherever possible and practical
- Take note of the animal testing necessary to create such products as antidepressants and whether or not they are necessary

Re: Are Antidepressants Vegan?
Absolutely yes, if you need them. Probably no, if you're taking them recreationally or something and they contain animal ingredients.
It doesn't sound like you have any intention of taking them recreationally.
That said, it's better to learn to identify what's causing your depression to resurface, and head it off before you become depressed. For most people, antidepressants are a crutch to be used to get back on track in life, and gain the clarity needed to resolve problems at the root of the depression.

Re: Are Antidepressants Vegan?
My school workload has increased moderately, I am now participating in a sport, and have social relationships with other humans. Whenever I concentrate on one of these points, I lose out on another one or two usually. For example, if I choose to work diligently on my school work I have to tell others off when they want to talk to me and do not have time to practice my tennis. I think this is the problem which is causing my depression to resurface.brimstoneSalad wrote:That said, it's better to learn to identify what's causing your depression to resurface

Fix the problem. Make Bs instead of As in school. Cull your friends down to those you like the most, and with whom you can do sports so you achieve two goals with one engagement.Cirion Spellbinder wrote: What do you mean by head it off? How does one do that?
