Interesting podcast with psychologist Paul Bloom
From 1:14:05 onwards they discuss the morality of meat eating. Sam wants to go vegan, but he doesnt know how to do it properly and he wants people to help him out, so send him good guides if you have any. He still thinks meat is healthy, heh ..:/

Re: Sam Harris going vegan, needs help
That's great to hear; it has been a long time coming.
I sent him a message inviting him to the forum to post about his diet so we can give him specific advice and help with it; I think that would be his best bet, particularly if he's too busy to spend a lot of time sifting through all of the mixed information out there about nutrition.
Anybody else who can message to invite him to share his past diet problems or current details here for advice would be appreciated.
Sam Harris going vegan is big, but I really hope he can do it right, and not be misled by the pseudoscience out there and all of the bad nutritional advice. From his comments it seemed that his last foray did not go well, and I'd really like to understand why so the mistake isn't repeated.

Re: Sam Harris going vegan, needs help
This is an amazing message. I will send him a message. I am at a loss of words, really.
Edit: Found words.
His previous podcast with Paul Bloom was extremely interesting; talking about how empathy (and perhaps thereby democracy) is extremely flawed for making decisions. I look forward to listening this podcast tomorrow, especially because it's got this gem.
Edit 2: Damnit! I should have referred him to vegan physicians, but I did not.
Edit 3: For all your information, I edit posts this often on an extremely regular basis.

Post the link here, and the next person to message him can add it?
I also should have told him that he shouldn't feel any obligation at all to participate in the other community discussions if he posts here. We know he's busy, and we'd just be glad to help him with the nutritional aspects on a personal basis, which will be a lot faster and easier for him than trying to sort it out from all of the many resources out there.

Re: Sam Harris going vegan, needs help
I would just refer him to PCRM, really. http://www.pcrm.org/
I think with his level of fame he can probably get in contact with Neal Barnard directly.
Edit: Listening to the podcast. Paul bloom brings up exactly the hipocrisy that annoyed me extremely about the Cecil the Lion outrage.

Oh, yes, perhaps Barnard could help him.miniboes wrote:I would just refer him to PCRM, really. http://www.pcrm.org/

Should we contact Barnard and ask? (I don't think it's such a matter to contact him, as for him to make enough time to reply).
And do you think he would have enough time to work with Harris directly?

Re: Sam Harris going vegan, needs help
I think it is very much worth a try; if anyone can help Sam it's Barnard. Barnard already seems to be working closely with celebrity vegans such as Alicia Silverstone and Ellen Degeneres. Sam might not be a celebrity in that sense, but he is certainly highly influencial in certain groups.brimstoneSalad wrote:Oh, yes, perhaps Barnard could help him.miniboes wrote:I would just refer him to PCRM, really. http://www.pcrm.org/

That's great. Have you tried to contact pcrm?
I just did. Not sure if they'll get my message though.

Re: Sam Harris going vegan, needs help
I just tweeted at Barnard directly. I'll e-mail PCRM as well. I will make a reddit post on the vegan subreddit to call for people to do the same. If many people tweet or mail them, it is sure to grasp their attention.brimstoneSalad wrote:That's great. Have you tried to contact pcrm?

It would be really awesome if they did a show discussing it.
