I know Bic and Mead test on animals.
I also know Pilot doesn't.
I have
•gel pens
•mechanical pencils
•permanent markers
•highlighters
AND ALL I NEED ARE BINDERS AND PAPER AND MAYBE BOOK COVERS! I haven't found any cruelty free companies that sell that, and I've been searching Google for three days. School starts on the last day of August for me. I live in America. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!

Ugh, this is frustrating: http://www.peta2.com/boards/topic/do-no ... nd-scotch/
Try Georgia-Pacific for paper?
What, they test on animals too?
Well, I found this company, but I'm not sure how common it is: http://features.peta.org/cruelty-free-c ... 1&Keyword=
Maybe try re-using binders you already have?
Book covers?

So are we all good here?
Can somebody summarize/copy the list of companies that do or don't test on animals for school supplies here a little more clearly? It's a little confusing what you guys decided.
This thread may be useful for others in the future. Hi future people!

Well, I'm not sure what fi0re used for the gel pens, mechanical pencils, permanent markers and highlighters. Are they just from Pilot?
From what I know so far:
Good:
-Pilot (possibly all the items that fi0re used in her first list)
-Marcal (paper)
Bad
-Mead
-Bic
-Georgia-Pacific
-3M
-Scotch (3M)
-Sharpie (apparently sharpies have animal products)
Will I be able to find Pilot products in the ordinary school supply section, or will I have to order online?
Where did you get them, fi0re?
PETA's company search feature is also pretty useful.

Re: CRUELTY FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES?
As far as I know, Pilot is Japan-based, self-owned and cruelty-free. I usually buy writing supplies from them online. Their web address varies, depending on where you want to deliver. For example, the American Pilot website is pilot.us and the Australian Pilot website is pilot.au and I think if you enter pilot.com into the address bar it'll give you more options. The company sells to Walgreens in America. I'm not really sure about anywhere else because I don't shop for writing supplies often (because most of Pilot's items are refillable.) By the way, does anyone know about Japan's product testing procedures and/or standards?
I forget: Has anyone here mentioned and/or heard of Ology? It's a Walgreens-owned and cruelty-free company that I've been buying copy paper and lightbulbs from for the past couple weeks. They claim to be energy-sufficient and tree-free. My only objection to them is that they're owned by Walgreens (which I'm 98% certain is not cruelty-free.)
I've been reusing my three office binders and my six identical Hello Kitty folders and scavenging around my house for white lined paper lately. I'm really hoping this will be temporary.
I'm bound to run out of paper eventually and since my mother is disabled and I only babysit on occasion, I don't have the money to print out white lined paper. My office binders are at least three years old and falling apart. As for my folders... Well, the problem is pretty obvious: I can't tell them apart so it takes me an insufficient amount of time to find the right folders at the start of class.
Can someone find out if Yoobi, Xhileration, Neena, Myndology, and up&up are cruelty-free/vegan? I know it looks like a lot to ask for, but if you saw the entire list of brands I'm planning to have looked up before next week, you'd probably cry.

Re: CRUELTY FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES?
^Sorry, forgot about this!
I think that suggests that they either don't test on animals, or are so small that PETA (or another organization) hasn't checked.
But I see Ology itself is indeed CF, and vegan: http://www.walgreens.com/topic/brand/ology.jsp
So what's wrong with buying from Ology? You'd show Walgreens that there is a market for CF, vegan products.
I can't find anything about Staples, and that's a pretty large company, right? So I'd think that they don't test...
And also, I'm not so sure it's really an issue to buy paper etc. from companies that test on animals. The paper itself wasn't tested; it's just paper! Why would it increase animal testing to buy paper, if the paper isn't tested on animals?
Well, they test the stuff before they put the stuff out, right? So why would buying a product already tested on animals increase demand more than paper? They're not going to do anymore testing on that particular product, right? Is the issue just that they'd make more like them if they notice people are buying them, that are tested on animals? If so, then why would paper matter?
The only information I could find about any of those: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/inde ... 619AAcV2J1fi0retheunicorn wrote:Can someone find out if Yoobi, Xhileration, Neena, Myndology, and up&up are cruelty-free/vegan?

Re: CRUELTY FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES?
Also for the record, Up&Up tests and I found no information on Neena or Myndology or Xhilaration so I'm just going to ignore them. I read the Yahoo thing and I'm offended. EquaLLity (sorry if I misspelled your screen name) I understand that animal testing has been helpful in the past, but I still disagree with the entire thing. Why not test on dead people with their permission ahead of time? Like the way people donate their brains to science..why not their bodies? Or MAYBE we could use our own f*cking common sense! Maybe we could just use non-toxic ingredients. We're not cave people. We understand what substances disable and kill us if used the wrong way, don't we? No matter how many times you pour shampoo down your throat, the outcome will always be bad. And about the relevance of brands that test making paper...Well, I just don't like to support any cruel brands. I don't give a flying fart in space if they have a few products that weren't tested on, or if only their parent company tests. I just refuse to use my money in such a careless way that I don't know for certain whether I've harmed or killed an animal. I don't want blood on my hands. If that means I can only buy from a few self-owned brands and make the rest of my cleaning and personal care products, then so be it. Comfort trumps convenience, in my opinion and that's how it will remain for the rest of my life.

Yeah, everyone messes it up!fi0retheunicorn wrote:(sorry if I misspelled your screen name)

It's 'EquALLity'. Get it, like equality for all?
Why are you trying to explain to me why animal testing is generally wrong? I wasn't advocating for animal testing; I was just saying that it might not really be an issue to buy paper etc. from companies that test. Because how could the paper itself be tested (etc.)?
And I wasn't even saying this is necessarily true, just suggesting it may be, and seeing if anyone would agree/disagree with the idea.
And what is your issue with buying from vegan companies with parent companies that test? You are helping to show the parent companies that there is a market for CF, vegan products.
