IRC Channel + Guide

Now that our community is growing, I think it would be great if there was an easier and faster way to communicate with each other, to share ideas and so on.

An IRC channel is supposed to be in addition to the forums, while you may want to discuss something with other users it doesn't always have to be in the form of a post.

Whether it be you want to have a light discussion with other users or just wanting to chat the IRC can be the place for you.

Now granted this chat is mostly 'private' in the sense that only users with 100 posts or more are allowed to apply.

The application process is necessary as it I will need vital information such as what alias you will be going under. The application process will be a simple one when the time to apply occurs.

It will be as simple as private messaging me or TheVeganAtheist your IRC username. That's it approval wait is almost instantaneous and you will receive a private message when you've been accepted as well as the channel name.

Guide to IRC

Now if you're interested in joining you're going to need an IRC client.

For Windows You can use HexChat
For Mac you can use Limechat
And For Linux use XChat

Once you have the downloaded join the Freenode server follow these instructions.

1) type in /msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <youremail@example.com>
Replace <password> with a password of your choice and <youremail@example.com> with your email address. It NEEDS to be real because it's going to ask you to verify your account.

In the event that your nickname if used already type in the command /nick <newnick>

2) Once you've registered a nick and confirmed your email address, login to IRC. The easiest way to do this is to just restart your IRC client and make sure it logs in correctly. Alternatively, you can run this command: /msg NickServ IDENTIFY <nick> <password>

3) After logging in the first time, use this command to force anyone using your nick to login, preventing potential abuse: /msg NickServ SET ENFORCE ON

After that you're done!

Once again when you're done private message me your IRC name and you'll be invited granted the prerequisites have been fulfilled.

If you have any questions please contact me and I will do my best answer them.

Keep on posting my friends!

EDIT

Applications are now being accepted! Please message me for invitations!

It still is a pretty small club we have here, so I hope it's not going to be a desert most of the time or going obsolete rather quickly, but I overall think it's a great idea!

A good estimate would be 10-15 active members or I suppose a little less.

Looking at the member list, there are twelve members with a hundred posts or more, with eight or nine (depending on your definition of being active) of them being active.
