I generally agree, but I think to do that well you have to join it with another subject.

With philosophy it's hard to dance around it, particularly if we want to generate any interest. I agree asking people to go vegan might be too much of a jump, where promoting reduction will likely be more effective.

Mercy For Animals has a good article on "The "V" Word" here:
http://www.mercyforanimals.org/v-word
As a vegan advocacy organization, we are occasionally asked why we don’t always use the word “vegan” when we’re encouraging people to change their diets. While we do use “vegan” a lot, we also use other language. Sometimes we use “vegetarian.” At other times we encourage people to “cut out or cut back on meat.”

If we want the public to go vegan, why don’t we simply tell people to go vegan every time? The answer is simple.

Our goal is to create as much dietary change as possible in order to spare as many animals as possible from the misery of animal agriculture. To achieve that, we have to be willing to sometimes ask for less than we really want.
So to start, I think our focus will be on more Meta-Activism, helping to criticize and improve vegan arguments, where most of the target audience will be on the vegan-vegetarian-reducetarian spectrum and interested in environmental and ethical issues already... and just wanting to learn the best arguments and methods and have something good and not aggressive or flagrantly inaccurate to show friends to back up an argument.
PsYcHo wrote: Sun Sep 10, 2017 4:40 amAnimal cruelty (without mentioning Veganism) and basic morality should be a start.
We can avoid mentioning it, although it's in our name. Explicitly promoting reduction can help, and reminding people that even small changes over time add up and make a big difference.
Going vegetarian is about 90% as good as going vegan, and that's nothing to sneeze at... particularly if you can inspire more people to make the more modest change.

We'll try to be a counterpoint to the militant style.

I'll have finished recording the audio for the introduction video by tomorrow! It's about halfway done right now.
Oh, and you might want to update the Patreon banner. I think Dream Sphere is donating 45 bucks a month! If it is you Sphere, we all appreciate it. I'll have more money on my account by tomorrow. Patreon accepts debit, right?

Great to hear! Hopefully we can have the video up by the end of the week. :D

I'll update it.
And thank you! Hope we can get up to $100 so there'll be time to do regular articles.

You'd have to use your debit card as a credit card, I think; most cards have an option to use it as if it were credit (like a Visa or Mastercard or something). It should say somewhere on the card. It's debit, but it also acts like whatever brand of credit card it says.

Something along the lines of avoiding certain types of meat (strictly due to how cruelly they treat the animals... ;) ) might be a good stepping stone. To give them a little credit, I saw a PETA video about avoiding eating chicken at Mcdonalds, and it got me thinking. (Although they really could have left out the worker sexually assaulting the chicken. :o )

And you can't go wrong with cute/interesting animal videos. Show a baby pig playing with a puppy, makes you think the next time you order bacon for breakfast..... Plant the seed.

That's a good video idea.

And yeah, we'll make sure to show some cute animals now and then. :)

I think it came out pretty well:

I know that there are a few long pauses, and some parts where it sounds like I jump, but I'll be sure to edit all that later.
Does anyone want bloopers? I have about a hundred of them.

That was actually really good. (And weirdly, you remind me of Bo Burnham)

The only suggestion I would offer is to slow it down just a bit. Just thinking of people who listen at a minimum of 1.5x speed. It sounded like you were reading from something you've read before and memorized. I think you have a really good video voice though.

And I am interested especially in any bloopers with profanity. Dagnabit.

For me, most videos are still too slow at 2x speed and that's as high as it goes. The only thing that throws me at those speeds is a thick accent or a mumbler, these are all well enunciated so it shouldn't be an issue for fast listeners like myself. If something is too fast I just slow it back down (although that's a rare treat).

2x works great if you're really paying attention (or have a higher than average comprehension rate), but in my experience I only listen to vids at that rate if I already know that I enjoy the content.

....... Now that I consider it, I think you make a great point. I prefer when the host talks at a normal/ slightly faster rate.

Criticism withdrawn.

I can't wait to see it with a video!
