Geozel - South Africa

Post by Geozel »

Good Morning (CAT: 8h09)

I have been vegetarian for a few years, about 7 or 8, with a relapse in between here and there. Inspired by a very good friend of mine I have been seriously considering veganism, attempting to substitute dairy milk for soy, and trying a vegan cheese from time to time, often just omitting cheese instead. I find it a little difficult sometimes budget wise, but also feel that planning is the solution here.

So - I have realised that I easily justify not doing too much effort or planning, and thus I am looking for inspiration and support from people who do not merely slander anyone who does not go cold turkey immediately. Like minded non-religious, philosophical discussions and trustworthy nutritional information is what I am looking for.

I came across the forum after I found the video made in response to Sam Harris's comment or enquiry on veganism (loved it) :

Welcome Geozel!

What's motivating you to try veganism? Environmental, ethical arguments?

Step by step is a good approach, and results in less recidivism. If you're committed to changing, you'll make it.
There are some good meal prep videos out there that might be inspiring. It can help to set a time to cook and prepare a bunch of food for the week. BUT if you can't, there are some convenience foods that are pretty healthy and vegan, although it depends on what you have access to.

Peanut butter sandwiches are a good go-to food, for example. It's important to have a few staples around for when you get hungry.

It could help to have an idea of what kinds of foods you usually like.
