Hello there everyone,
Nice to meet you. I'm a vegetarian from North-Western Europe leaning towards veganism. I'm convinced by the environmental and ethical case, it's the sustainable practice that I'm figuring out over time. I'm focusing on the dietary part first and expanding as I go. I'm an agnostic atheist (the site asked so I thought I'd mention it) and politically I'm best described as a libertarian socialist (the Marxist kind for those out of the loop to the term) so I might be the odd one out on that front. I hope to improve my life and intellectual acumen here and maybe even make a few e-friends, we'll see. The impetus for me coming over here was the stupid AskYourself video that 'called out' this site surrounding the #NameTheTrait argument, in case anyone was wondering.
Cheers!

Hey Commissaris! What in particular inspired you to go vegetarian?

Re: New Registree from Europe, Hi!
I suspect my case is rather atypical on that front because I became a practicing vegetarian by routine rather than choice. I had been living somewhere that only served vegetarian meals for 5 months: then I ate some salami, felt sick and then never wanted to eat meat, poultry and fish again. I didn't miss it, I didn't see a concern in not eating it so it just kind of stuck! I got in touch properly with the arguments surrounding these choices several years later after avoiding them because of a bad experience with a very 'woo'-based vegetarian girlfriend who made the subject very unattractive for me. Any particular reason you ask? Nice to mee you by the way.

Welcome Commissaris, great that you are considering veganism. I was a long time vegetarian before becoming vegan. I put it off a long time since I thought it would be too difficult. It wasn't difficult at all.
What's northwestern Europe? Northern Ireland? Iceland?

How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

Hey there Jebus, I'm not so much concerned with the difficulty for myself overall, I live with my vegetarian girlfriend and I'd like to make the change together where possible. She's very strongly attached to cheese and our shared comfort foods often have it so while I've eliminated milk and cream and yoghurt and animal components in the vast majority of our groceries we still buy cheese on occasion and she eats the occasional egg. I prefer to stay vague on my place of residence for a bit until I get settled here but I don't suffer from a lack of access to the foods for a dietary vegan lifestyle.Jebus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 9:54 pm Welcome Commissaris, great that you are considering veganism. LibSoc high five, no gods, no masters Feel free to share the first thought that comes to mind in the form of a forum thread. I'm also interested in how we can act to see better habitat preservation in line with animal ethics, etc. It's a difficult subject that purchasing habits can't hope to solve alone.Commissaris wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 6:01 pm Hello there everyone,

I'm sure we'll discover subjects where we differ but for now: thanks for the welcoming words, and I won't be bashful!NonZeroSum wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2017 6:49 am LibSoc high five, no gods, no masters Feel free to share the first thought that comes to mind in the form of a forum thread.
