Oregon Antic

Post by Oregon Antic »

I saw that this site was going to try and disengage the Vegan from the Athiest, and I think that's a very good idea. Although I am both a Vegan and an Athiest, I find the linkage very suspect. I am also a Bowler and someone that does not believe in the Easter Bunny. But I do not plan on joining the BowlAbunny site. Kind of a mixed message thing. Will this ever lead to a change in site address/name?

That said, I do hope BOTH messages (Veganism and Atheism) continue to reach more people.

OH, before I forget. My introduction is that I am a lifelong atheist that only came out of the closet after my mother died. Some might consider that dishonest, but I just failed to see what would be accomplished by disappointing someone (my mom) that was far too wedded to the idea of God to be able to accept my lack of belief. It was tough enough for her to accept my diet choices.

I wonder how many other Atheists have kept quiet for similar reasons.

Opps! I see I piggybacked on Toronto's thread. I tried to delete it but was not allowed. Sorry!

You're all good, Brimstone or another mod should be able to move yours and this post to a new thread.

Just got what you meant about the limited usefulesness of a BowlAbunny site, didn't know what you meant by Bowler at first aha.

I have similar concerns with the over extension of secularism that I expanded on here -

But I agree with you that both critical thinking liberationist movements should be supported.

I never shied away from telling family and friends of my avowed atheism when I threw off the accuracy of any human record of the supernatural. Though I confess I present as more wishy washy spiritualist when Good Samaritans used to pick me up hitchhiking through Europe. Ricky Gervais told his mother 'I don't know' when she was on her death bed and asked if he thought there was likely an afterlife to go to, which I can sympathise with, even pretending wholeheartedly in such a circumstance. I know of friends who's parents lost their faith on them going atheist and the friend feeling a burden that they took away the symbols supporting her longterm relationships. It is terribly tricky and I wouldn't propose to know the right answer for anyone.

Welcome to the forum!

We all agreed that indeed the link is a bit weird. Even TVA himself has split his channel up into a vegan channel and an atheist channel. We hoped to attract more theists this way, and have the forum be less about religion. Theological discussions still pop up every now and then but are much rarer.

How did you end up going vegan?

Welcome! I fixed it for you.

Site name? Not sure what you mean. We renamed it philosophical vegan some time ago to try to appeal more broadly to non-atheists.

Hello!

I love your post! I actually joined for the Atheism aspect, but the Vegans made me consider other stuff as well. (I thought TVA was mainly atheist, but apparently Veganism is the main draw. )

I think in the long run, both communities tend to strive towards similar goals, so we should all be able to work together to make our patch of the world a little better. It really surprised me that most Vegans tend to put human suffering on the top of the list of things they would like to improve, instead of just making people eat kale. ;)

Welcome aboard!

Welcome. There are many vegan sites, but I joined this one because it also included atheism. I consider the meat industry and organised religion the two biggest cons aroun and there are similarities in the carnists and theists adhere to their beliefs.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.
