Interesting theory about JFK's assassination

In 1992, a book was published by Howard Donahue, a man who is very experienced with guns, entitled Mortal Error. In it, he proposed a theory contrary to the conventional story that Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK, and also contrary to the tinfoil hat conspiracy theories that Kennedy's death was an organised hit by the deep state. He proposes that Kennedy's death was an accident, with the shot that killed him coming from George Warren Hickey Jr., a Secret Service agent, who misfired.

From Wikipedia:
Conducting his own investigation, Donahue eventually decided that the bullet that struck Kennedy in the head had in fact been fired by United States Secret Service Special Agent George Warren Hickey Jr. (March 24, 1923 to February 25, 2005) from an AR-15 rifle carried in the car immediately following the President's vehicle. The series of events is as follows: After the first shot which hit the street was fired, Hickey turns completely around and acquires Oswald on the sixth floor of the school book depository building. His turned head is documented in an AP photograph by James Altgens. Hickey reaches for the AR-15 under the seat, releases the safety and begins to lift the gun. The second shot is fired by Oswald, hitting the president and Texas Governor John Connally. The president's car and the follow-up car containing Hickey suddenly speed up. This is attested to by Secret Service agent Clint Hill. Agent Hickey, who is unstable because he is standing on the cushion of the seat, rather than the floor of the car, begins to fall back due to the acceleration of the vehicle, pulling the trigger of the AR-15. The gun is pointed toward Kennedy at that instant, and the bullet strikes him squarely in the back of the head.

Are you familiar with AR-15 rifles? The likelihood that Agent Hickey would have been able to hit JFK's head via his one "accidental shot" is pretty silly. Also, why would have Kennedy's other aides (who were sitting in the car alongside Hickey) been motivated to keep this "accidental shot" a secret? Wouldn't other agents within the vicinity have heard the sound of his rifle discharge (including Hickey's driver)? There doesn't seem to be any witnesses here. Additionally, two large bullet fragments that were proven to have been fired from Lee Harvey Oswald's Carcano rifle were found in the front-seat area of the Presidential limousine.

The photographic evince doesn't support this theory either. There were many photographs that day in Dealey Plaza, yet none of them capture Hickey carrying his rifle at the time of the initial shots.

I could waste my money and buy the book to debunk the remainder of this conspiracy theory (the trajectory of the third bullet), but I don't think that would be a good use of my money, since there's already enough evidence provided in Kennedy's autospy reports as well as the investigation by the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

Fun little read though :D

Edit: Maybe not for Agent Hickey

Being a limey, I'm not familiar with guns at all, but I'll take your word for it. As well as that, when the other factors are taken into account, the theory does seem pretty ridiculous. In regards to Hickey, he ended up suing the publishers and then settling for an undisclosed amount.
