I'm not well versed on the topic, but I've read about using thorium for nuclear power instead of uranium.
Seems like a win all around. Safer, more prevalent, less waste.
Thoughts?
Any downsides to this?
Would transitioning from uranium to thorium be difficult?

It sounds like a good idea to me.PsYcHo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 10:52 pm I'm not well versed on the topic, but I've read about using thorium for nuclear power instead of uranium.

Re: Nuclear Power using thorium
Thorium by itself won't "meltdown". It takes a small amount of plutonium to activate, and it the event of an emergency the plutonium could be removed by a "plug" of sorts. Once disconnected from the plutonium, the thorium is inert. Plus it generates much less radioactive waste, by a significant amount. (supposedly, I'm researching this claim now.)
I'm researching it a bit more now that I'm interested in it, and there is a lot of bs concerning thorium out there.
