I also wanted to mention one more critical insight about global warming. Whatever you spend money on will create global waming. It is very hard and impractical to greatly reduce your carbon footprint without cutting the total amount of money you spend. One possibility is to cut your spend and save up money and retire a little earlier. You would have less material wealth in your life and perhaps less interesting experiences (like travel) but you would get more time to spend with family and friends near to you, read, experience nature etc. Very few people on their death bed say that they wish they had worked longer at their corporate job.

Saving carbon emissions by using less heating, travelling less and purchasing less is all of limited use if you then use the money you save to buy other stuff instead. You must spend less money overall or you cannot realistically achieve a deep emissions cut.

This will likely have other environmental benefits such as reduced air pollution, and generation of rubbish, and using up of the earth's resources.
