Conspiracy Theorists

Post by Red »

Wanna know something that pisses me off? Conspiracy theorists. Particularly ones that believe shootings are fake. You've seen these people on the internet: The government is staging these shootings just so they can make more restrictive guns laws. Wanna know what pisses me off even more? How they say that the shootings have "discrepancies" in them. Like I remember Chris said that Sandy Hook was fake, and he provided his evidence, which I quickly refuted with an ounce of critical thought and research. I always think to myself when these people hand me their pseudo-evidence "Dude, if the government planned this (that organization with a lot of intelligent people working for them who properly plan things out), I'm pretty sure they'd be weary of these minor discrepancies, so that conspiracy, tin-foil hat wearing nuts like you, with an IQ of 78 don't spot them that easily."

Also it may not be these people's intentions, but what they do is pretty fucking disgusting. 49 people died, and you're saying it didn't happen? Might as well just shit on their graves and give their families the finger while you're at it. Ugh, fuck this company.

Chris also believes that (I am NOT making this up) that ISIS is funded by the USA to destabilize the world and make way for a one world government. I'm not sure f he's a real person. Then he went on to call me a sheep, brainwashed, etc..
He also sent me this link:

Sorry for that, I just needed to let off some steam.

There are people out there who really believe lizard people exist, and they are the ones behind the future one world government. Look at Alex Jones, and his bat-shit crazy "theories" about the government. (Actually, probably don't. It will make you even madder.)

And these crazy people have the right to vote........du fuq...

I agree, it's pretty contemptible. These people don't typically understand basic reasoning to understand the scope these conspiracies would have to have,

I agree that conspiracies you've described are pretty ridiculous and disturbing, but I want to add that governments do lie/do bad things sometimes. The US government lied about the NSA program, the CIA interrogation methods, Abu Ghraib abuse, the facts about the intelligence regarding WMDs in Iraq, etc. etc.. It happens.

And more commonly, of course, individual politicians lie all of the time.
"Climate change isn't real! The Earth is actually getting cooler!!!1 What do you mean, that statement has something to do with the fact that I've received tens of thousands of dollars from the oil industry? Are you suggesting that huge sums of money would sway my votes and statements?!?!"

The types of conspiracies you mentioned are obviously crazy, but not all conspiracies are equal.

In my experience, those that espouse conspiracy theories have allowed their identity to be based upon the fact that they believe in a conspiracy theory. Take the moon landing for example, on any video about this, there always seems to be chains of comments locked in a name calling contest due to someone saying that the moon landing didn't happen. They don't exactly say nicely either. It makes them feel good, they like the fact that they see the "Truth" while everyone else is blind. Take the comment section of this video for example.

There are many arguements there if you care to look.

The fact that our government officials are so unabashedly dishonest contributes to this prevalence of conspiracy theories. Look at both presidential candidates in the US. They have both, repeatedly, lied on camera. When shown the video of them saying something different, they and their apologists continue with the lie. (I believe there is a famous reference about repeating a lie until it is seen as the truth) Without turning this thread into a discussion of politics in general, we are basically being given the illusion of having a choice. (Well, at least my liar isn't as bad as your liar.)

I think they have conditioned society to expect to be lied to. So toss in a few crazy individuals who want to mess with people, and it almost makes sense to consider that they may be telling the truth. How long did our government deny the NSA was spying on citizens before Snowden provided proof? And the really scary part......nut jobs like Alex Jones actually had this one right before everyone else saw the proof.

Damn, maybe I should start a welcoming party for our future lizard overlords...... (PsYcHo pours himself a drink and starts crafting a hat from aluminum

Yeah, I'd say the Amazing Atheist had it right.
"Hah! You believe the alien spacecraft actually crashed in Roswell New Mexico? You're a fucking idiot! It actually crashed in Warsaw Illinois! The government just made you think it crashed in Roswell, cause the government's tricky like that! Only idiots believe that story."

What do you mean by scope? What is that?

The government does lie (as I've said before), but here we're talking about shootings and terrorist attacks. I'm pretty sure if the government did fake those, they would've done a better job at hiding the discrepancies.

Unless you're saying that the government lying makes people more suspicious.

Had a go at challenging an old friend on his conspiracy bull a while ago on facebook to limited success, rattled their belief system a little and got some likes by onlookers - http://imgur.com/gallery/aCJoy

But posting this now because just came across a real doozy aha - https://plus.google.com/109962215079387517038/posts/WuuyEHfBWvM
Jaundiced Jape wrote:On May 22, 1973 after 8 months of CIA training in a secure location, fourteen men were carried from a United States Air Force base to a remote location outside of Rome, Italy.

Under cover of night, these men were led to the entrance location of a network of underground tunnels leading to the Vatican City.

Each man was in possession of a small cylindrical cannister which held a rodent specially trained to seek out a rare kind of moss called "necrocress," that is known to have grown upon the bones of the entombed in ancient times.

The men were instructed to travel to pre-determined locations within the underground network and release the rodents into drainage pipes suspected to lead to the secret repositories of remains belonging to some of the Christian faith's most important historical figures -- including John the Baptist, and Jesus of Nazareth.

The operation went horribly wrong when one of the men betrayed the others, alerting the Vatican Guard to their presence. If not for the heroic actions of one man, their escape would have been impossible. Gathering up his fellows, this man devised a plan to tie a piece of string to the tail of each rodent, and connect the other end to their cannisters. He then set the rodents running loose throughout the tunnels.

The chaotic distraction was sufficient to permit their escape and subsequent extraction -- all thanks to this one cunning man. That man's name was James Albert Varney Jr. -- otherwise known as Jim Varney, best known for his portrayal of "Ernest" in a series of wildly popular 1980's comedy films.

Sometimes the most unlikely amongst us have the most fascinating life stories to tell!
