Re: Which world leaders do you most admire?
Great wartime leader. However, he couldn't have done it without the strong backing of the Labour Party, which had supported him during that period more than many Conservatives. He was also underrated in regards to domestic policy as well as he was committed to the post-war consensus of full employment, the welfare state and some level of nationalisation (although he did denationalise some industries such as the steel industry). Also, made a good move by appointing Harold Macmillan in charge of housing and he built 300,000 houses a year.
However, Churchill did some very questionable things such as blaming the Bengal famine where around 4 million died on the Indians who he claimed were "breeding like rabbits". As well as that, he approved sending 150,000 Kenyans into detention camps so that Kenya's highlands could be reserved for white settlers.
I think that despite his achievements, the negatives are too great to ignore.
