Review the Song Above You

Post by Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz »

Music. Music is defined by Google as "vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion." Indeed, music can convey such forms of emotion that it can be used to inspire people to do evil just as much as it can be used to inspire them to do good. The Hegelian-Marxist philosopher points out that Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" has been played and performed by a multitude of political movements ranging from Nazi Germany to Maoist China to the European Union. In Stanley Kubrick's classic film A Clockwork Orange, men are depicted as murdering people to this rhythm. With that in mind, please, when reviewing this songs, do not be tempted to any form of violence because of them.

This thread will be devoted to music. This is an original thread that has never been seen before in the likes of history. Indeed, Dream Sphere made a thread entitled "Rate the Song Above You", but this thread is so much different in every single way, instead of RATING the songs, we shall be REVIEWING them.

Rate - (1) Assign a standard or value to (something) according to a particular scale. (2) Consider to be of a certain quality or standard.

Review - (1) Assess (something) formally with the intention of instituting change if necessary. (2) Write a critical appraisal of (a book, play, film, etc.) for publication in a newspaper or magazine.

I do not intend to publish these reviews in a newspaper or magazine, but if anybody else wishes to do so, be my guest.

The song must be provided in a link to a website which lets you play the track for free and without a membership, so yes to youtube and bandcamp, but no to spotify or the like.

I anticipate that this thread will probably become a massive meme-fest, for the simple reason that meme songs are banned in the thread "Rate the Song Above You". However, if anybody wants to post a non-meme song, go for it!

Here's a review request from RedAppleGP:
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, here's a song for you.

Thanks, RedAppleGP (You know what else is red? Socialism).

I do not think Nickelback is so bad. I have heard a couple of their songs and I think that they are very nice. Nevertheless, I still found this amusing, although not entirely an original concept.

Here is my song:

I actually sometimes find reviewing novelty and other atypical songs to be fun, I just didn't want them overpopulating my thread which was more meant for serious music. I'll still post here every now and then.

As for your thing.

The rapping surprisingly isn't the worst I've heard. The electronic backing music isn't the worst I've heard either. But, it's a kid rhythmically talking with a squeaky monotone voice for a minute over generic electronic music. Memes which directly reference the concept of memes are also kinda lame to me. 2/10

So my recommendations. The kid should practice rapping and if his voice continues to squeak/crack, then he should wait until he's a young adult before recording more stuff. He should put a lot of effort into the electronic backing track. The song should be longer and have an interesting structure. And he should write lyrics intelligently on serious issues, or write lyrics which are just well written romanticism of deep rooted human interests like nature, existentialism etc. instead of memes, sex, cars, money, superiority, jokes, and typical popular/meme/rap lyrics.

As for your song, I found it enjoyable, but had to listen to the original one after as I had never heard it before. In the original version, the voice is surprisingly a lot clearer than this version. I like them both. The "Disney" version I unironically do like as the contrast between the lighthearted happy theme and the dark disturbing lyrics is very interesting.

I'm not sure if this is meant for me, but if it is, I would advise that you put songs such as this one in this thread.

The song's lyrics are just ridiculous as the man singing it does not sound European at all, but from the United States. It is foolish of him to find a problem with people migrating to Europe from other countries, when his ancestors were immigrants to lands of the Native Americans.

Anyway, here is my song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvX8WLJ-fHo

I will post some more serious songs on the "Rate the song above you" thread at some point.

This song brought tears to my eyes.... (while laughing, I accidentally splashed bourbon in them  )

I glanced at the OP, but figured I'd just put something I stumbled across that was so fucked up I had to share it. (I actually think the "artist" was trying to be serious....   )
