The whole of Season 7 of Game of Thrones plot has leaked online, I clicked the links to see whether it was just plot summaries or full scripts, the next episode 4 is the whole script so I greedily read it, feeling content that I got the raw character arcs. I don't feel any guilt as this happened with season 5 and it only boosted interest and revenue for GoT.
But I won't read the rest of the episode plot summaries because I think that is the definition of spoiling the pleasure of watching it. But my housemate has, and it's a funny feeling knowing so many people I know will read whilst the rest of us wait.
Have you read them or had similar experience and why?

Re: Do you have the patience to avoid spoilers and leaks?
It's a good thing I don't watch TV, otherwise things like this would be a bother.
But I don't really care about spoilers, I mean, I'd get a bit annoyed, but it wouldn't affect my overall experience. Like once, I was getting ready to read Flowers For Algernon, but then, I don't remember how or when, but my dad spoiled that Algernon dies at the end. I was annoyed, but I still enjoyed the book.
Heh, this reminds me of a funny story my dad told me about his friend Gus. Back in the 80's when ET first came out, when everyone was lining up to see it, Gus would drive along, open his window, and yell out "ET dies!" which gave me a good laugh. Not sure if this really has much to do with this, but..

This relates to a difficult question: Do spoilers ruin or enhance the experience?
There have been some claims (or studies, but take that with a grain of salt when we're talking about social sciences) that say spoilers make media more enjoyable. Maybe it does for some or most people, but I avoid them for anything I'm interested in seeing or reading.

I guess it's all subjective. I think for some, it may enhance the experience because it gives the film a sense of dramatic irony.brimstoneSalad wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 9:30 pm This relates to a difficult question: Do spoilers ruin or enhance the experience?

Much like watching something a second time, it may help them see hints and foreshadowing which in themselves can be enjoyable in a different way. I tend to remember them after the reveal, though, since I have pretty good comprehension/memory. It probably depends on that. I can see how many people would miss them if they have poorer reading comprehension or don't remember things from the start of the film as well/weren't paying attention to that stuff.RedAppleGP wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 9:37 pm I guess it's all subjective. Oh, like you're able to put the pieces together with the information that's given? I kinda like doing that.brimstoneSalad wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 9:46 pm Much like watching something a second time, it may help them see hints and foreshadowing which in themselves can be enjoyable in a different way.
Oh yeah, is it a bad thing to skip to the back of a book because you just want to see how it ends? I remember doing that myself a lot when I was younger, and I still do it sometimes (unless it's a nonfiction book).
Yeah, people say that I focus way too much on details sometimes. I remember like once or twice that I found a plothole because a character said something minor earlier in the movie. It probably depends on that. I can see how many people would miss them if they have poorer reading comprehension or don't remember things from the start of the film as well/weren't paying attention to that stuff.

For sure, I don't want to know what will happen. A few years ago I took on the task of watching alll 213 UFCs in chronological order. I knew very little of what had happened between 1998 and 2017. I did my best not to find out who the stars were or who had won the big fights but sometimes it became impossible. Whenever I knew the outcome I would enjoy the fights much less.
This weekend I watched the UFC live for the first time in over 20 years. It was a great joy especially as I had money invested in the outcome of the fights.
I haven't watched a single episode of Game of Thrones. I guess I should as it has become the most watched tv show of all time. I just can't see myself enjoying a show with dragons flying around.
By the way, Nonzerosum, did you see the below fight (I guess it was supposed to be friendly sparring but it seemed to get a bit heated at times)? It may interest you as you have expressed interest in both Conor McGregor and Game of Thrones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aaehn1aY8Ig

If you ever read Lord of the Rings, it's this decades fable, for that reason alone it's worth tapping into the commons imaginary, like using the bible stories to bring people round to easy truths like live by the sword, die by the sword.I haven't watched a single episode of Game of Thrones. I guess I should as it has become the most watched tv show of all time. I just can't see myself enjoying a show with dragons flying around.
I like the fantasy of kingdoms split up and held back by dragon fire, but allowed to swap tales by the sonnet and carrier pigeon, and War of the Roses, viking pirates, slave rebellions, mongols, pagans, giants and dragons all rolled into one.

Interesting! The mountain doesn't have any fighting experience, but Conor looked genuinely disconcerted that a man his size even falling on him could do some serious damage. Fast jabs making him weary and good foot movement, tho wouldn't have space to move that far in ring. I think he really wanted to get him in the face when he leg locked him like that, but must have agreed before hand not to. Mountain being a good sport and holding out for a good while, Connor got carried away with unnecessary knee kick at the end, but just shows power of knees and elbows if just one of those weapons were allowed in fight with Mayweather.By the way, Nonzerosum, did you see the below fight (I guess it was supposed to be friendly sparring but it seemed to get a bit heated at times)? Re: Do you have the patience to avoid spoilers and leaks?
A Facebook page named "Hahaha how are politics real" was one I very much liked, but they gave spoilers for Star Wars Rogue One, and it upset me greatly. However, I watched the film later on, and despite the spoilers, I very much enjoyed it.
Spoilers are something that should be best avoided, but if you see one, don't let it ruin the film for you, because the chances are, the film will be enjoyable even if you know how it goes.

Re: Do you have the patience to avoid spoilers and leaks?
I have plenty of patience, so I never intentionally try to find spoilers for TV or movies if I plan on watching them. Sometimes it's hard on forums where people make references to TV shows in parts of the forum non-specific to that show without using spoiler tags, but I try as best I can to skip over those or leave the webpage in that case.
For video games, especially some RPGs like Bethesda's games and Dark Souls, I like watching a let's play slightly ahead of where I am about half the time. The other half I like to discover things on my own, but sometimes watching other people play gives me knowledge of things to do that I never would have found otherwise and can increase the games playlength by 50% or greater and/or save me from grief if I get lost/stuck somewhere for too long and don't know what to do. Some games, particularly story driven games I however try not to spoil for myself, like Mass Effect.
