Oh my fucking god, you're comparing my actions to that of a rapist now, you are disturbed!
Comparing, yes. The concept of abuse and consent is similar. Not equating, though. Rape is far worse than bullying.
I'm asking sincere questions about how you define bullying, and how that logic applies to other abuses.
I want you to understand that I make these comments under the duress of not wanting claims about my character left unchallenged, that if there was a feature on this site to block your comments I would jump at it with open arms to get a break from you whilst still being able to view the progress of the forum, that means if this is your last slander 'that I participated in unconscious bullying,' that I don't want to discuss this with you or reply to any further comments from you.

I think it is inappropriate to compare this to the consent relationships that can be perceived and applied in communication between two known persons and negotiating with the nature of cat-fishing/alt-identities online.

If I saw someone leave their house and come say hello to a group of people, misrepresent their views to that group and was offensive to the extent that they got banned from communicating with said group, then come out the same house wearing Groucho Marx glasses joking that they were a different person to that group, then proceeded to do this time and time again in new getup, but was generally well mannered so they ingraciated him back into the group. Then I joined that group and everyone let me debate about strange beliefs like North Korea without before letting me in on it being the same house that they keep leaving. I would be as engraciating as I could be to that person, if they wanted to start going by she pronouns and changed their name great, I've been calling them Zzzz or Zee and he. But I might have some concerns about why they let me believe they sincerely had those strange beliefs to hook me into long debates I wouldn't have otherwise participated in. And if it is a game to the extent that wearing groucho glasses was, then I could play along by laughing with them where they slip up their role, like we were doing when it came to IP, my mistake was taking them at their word that they wanted me to provide proof that that they had slipped up conclusively, and it wasn't just an emphatic irrational defence that they wanted to look over the top to play into their role, as soon as they told me they didn't like it I understood straight away, to the extent that they want people to accept this is the account they wish to play games with and deliver their message, they don't want people questioning it I absolutely respect that. My comments can then be taken as a profound confusion about the nature of trolling, and how to step cautiously around that phenomenon. All that being said Zee knows my misgivings but also that I'm more than willing to go about accepting they are who they say they are for the purposes of discussion and that I appreciate them as a person, always have and shared no bad will.

6. In response to Brimstonesalad and NonZeroSum, do you really expect me to read all that writing?! :o How did you write so much in that time? You must really have a lot of free time on your hands!
7. I really hope nobody was so busy writing that they forgot it was election day. Make sure to vote!
8. I'm really sorry for making such a massive deal about this.
9. Please do not get angry at each other and/or me. This forum is meant to be a happy forum.

Thanks Zzzzz aha, I live in a teeny tiny village where the old village school is the polling station a 100 paces down the road from my house, took 2 mins to vote and took the dogs down the river walk on a lovely day, glad to hear you're good.

I am not responding to this under duress. Of course you were not responsible for assassinating Kennedy while framing Oswald as a patsy. That is just nonsense spun from the crazy conspiracy theorists.......

I am worried about this too. I also see the people on this forum as such close friends they are like family, so I hate to see them squabble. I feel like this is my fault.

This very common comment is so annoying. People need to learn that comparisons (and analogies) are simply comparisons (and analogies). They are meant to clarify a point and not meant to brand the debate opponent.

If I recall correctly Dizzy was very annoying and generally did more harm than good to the forum. If Zzzzz is the same person (which it seems s/he is) it worries me that s/he is capable of such lows and makes me less interested in responding to his/her posts.

I should point out that Dizzy is a changed person and has grown older and wiser since he trolled on this forum, and has learned his lesson. I am saying this because, although he doesn't post on here often nowadays, if he posts again, I would not want his topics to be ignored.

That seems like an appropriate response. Someone who intentionally violates certain rules and standards of any community should be ostracized.

If someone has made a genuine effort to abide by the rules, for a significant amount of time, I think past indiscretions shouldn't prohibit them from interacting .

Of course, there is no obligation for any members wronged in the past to acknowledge the former offending member.

As a forum dedicated to outreach and changing people's minds, converting a troll into a real contributing member is the greatest of achievements.
I don't think we should hold it against people for having been trolls any more than having eaten meat, etc.

Holding grudges discourages change.

What do you think of operant conditioning? Shouldn't inappropriate behavior have negative consequences so that the same behavior is less likely to reoccur?
