Magic anatomy morphing pill

Post by NonZeroSum »

Say they unlocked the secret to modifying human anatomy in seconds, apart from the obvious larger brain, stronger and fitter, what novel physical abilities would you try first? It can be anything from adding limbs of animals to mythological creatures (as long as it conformed to the laws of physics) to anatomy that would meld seamlessly with bionic mechanics.

And what hi-jinks would you get into? You can imagine any scenario from being the first test subject gone rogue to a group, nation or world of morphing animal societies.

I'd go for small mostly permanent changes like orangutan's limbs strength and flexibility. But would want to try out temporarily a Dinosaur to Bear's size and brute force as well as a Quetzalcoatlus' flight, a Cheaters sprint and a Dolphins agility.

And it'd be aces to have the Doctor Manhattan Blue God effect on all the bad guys from terrorists, to dictatorships, to oligarchs. But would be more keen to have other people get excited about their connection to the earth through capabilities and habitats, so preserve them for other animals. I imagine it might inadvertently start a war between the bionic-trans-humanists and the rewilding preservationists though, not to mention mutually assured destruction if the pill wasn't incredibly well regulated.

I feel like I would be too nervous about the effects.

If something was able to assure me, though, flight would be a neat trick.
I somehow feel like it would be hard work to fly (given human-size), and I'd end up on the bus home after a couple blocks. Thermodynamics and all. Not a lot of updrafts around to soar in.
Now if you throw in a source of extra energy, then we're talking.

Is it only biological stuff, or can you have an engine too?

If it were possible I would choose:

- the ability to stop time (or, if that weren't possible in your thought experiment, the ability to move so fast that it's almost as if I had stopped time)
- complete control over my body (e.g. sleep, hunger, diseases etc.)

I'd like the ability to hold an erection for more than three minutes.
How to become vegan in 4.5 hours:
1.Watch Forks over Knives (Health)
2.Watch Cowspiracy (Environment)
3. Watch Earthlings (Ethics)
Congratulations, unless you are a complete idiot you are now a vegan.

I think we already have a magic, anatomy-morphing pill for that...

That's why I chose Quetzalcoatlus because a little extra weight in the brain/skull department would likely not be a big deal. I like the idea of gliding about being able to feel the movement of cutting through the air. But yea would definitely be a challenge the first time all the same.

Yeah I mean sure you can be Ironman/ Falcon as long as you can show your math, you can increase brain size and build any kind of bionic engine mesh you like. I just think you'd take all the fun out of flying which is direct experience, like learning to fire an arrow countering for wind direction as opposed to firing a heat seeking missile.

I chose cheetah in my example because it was the fastest anatomy we know, so you can go from a standing start to reaching 45 mph (20 m/s) in 2 seconds, but you'd need a field of very limited static objects (like the Savanah). If you tried to go the speed of light in a city, I imagine you just wouldn't have the time to take in stimuli that would save you from getting hit by a bus. But show some tentative math, and give some examples of how you'd like to use it, that's the fun part.
- complete control over my body (e.g. sleep, hunger, diseases etc.)
Less diseases as in fitness, immunity, strength, all good things we want to work towards in our normie human lives anyways. I do think you run the risk of going cold if you go fully Deadpool invincible though, eating and sleeping are pleasurable and would want to share those empathetic experiences with my common animal morphs aha, I can imagine getting serious munchies and drowsiness after a 4 legged cheetah sprint that would be satisfying to fulfill afterwards. I think a cap on lifespan through diseases would also keep me cautious of deadly misadventures with my new powers.

Nah, that would not be enough. I want a stopwatch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FliufMGBzo

In that case, I'd go with a nanotube pressure chamber nuclear reactor of some kind. Maybe focus fusion.
