Re: Is meat consumption up?

OK, I thought you were going to cite some actual study or analysis that took into account major confounding variables like waste and meat type, not an industry site giving raw numbers based likely on mere food availability numbers and with vastly different composition and weighing standards The num...

Re: Why Don't More Vegans Support Clean Meat?

I haven't bothered to read Paul Shapiro book yet because it seemed more like an effort to hype "clean-meat" rather than go over the science and various issues. Start-ups are always trying to sell investors are some snake oil...."clean-meat" seems to be no different in this regard. What is being prod...

Re: Is meat consumption up?

For example in the US per person meat consumption has increased the last 2~3 years and is projected to reach on all time high in 2018. Can you link to some sources on that? I'd like to see where you're getting these numbers. The figures are from the USDA, here is a chart of them: http://www.nationa...

Re: The Electoral College

Democracies are unstable forms of government....over time they tend to converge to dictatorships over time and this has happened historically many times. Sometimes it happens with force but often it happens with the "will of the people"....they vote in popular autocrats that transform the government...

Re: Unnatural Vegan is not a good resource for non-vegans

I’m not sure about that. She references her non-vegan audience occasionally and has made introductory videos (see the “New to Veganism?” playlist). She may....but I don't think that indicates that her channel is anything beyond a channel for vegans. The "new to veganism" video mostly goes over nutr...

Re: Unnatural Vegan is not a good resource for non-vegans

I'm not sure what is and isn't the best way to convert someone to veganism.....but beyond any potentially polarizing comments she doesn't really make the case for veganism in the first place. Its more so assumed as a given in her videos and she evaluates various issues within that scope. So I doubt ...

Re: Food allergies that prevent/make it incredibly difficult to go fully vegan?

If you ate 2% of the RDA for vitamin C every 2~3 days you'd die of a vitamin C deficiency. You need to consume around 10~15% of the RDA daily to avoid an outright vitamin C deficiency.

Re: My Problem With NTT

Also just as a matter of strategy, the argument ignores widespread religious beliefs people have so its going to be unconvincing to a large portion people. That is, many view humans dualistically and don't necessarily think that humans are special because some particular trait but because we possess...

Re: My Problem With NTT

I've had similar thoughts in response to these style of arguments but my thinking is more neurological in nature. At some point in the argument a comparison is made to humans that have diminished mental capacities (because they are young, brain-damaged, etc) and these cases are imagined to be equiva...

Re: Is the Austrian School of Economics Pseudoscience?

Strictly speaking, yes. But this is a sort of an ad-hoc hypothesis, and actually quite a nonsensical one. See, to increase the government spending, you need to increase the taxes. So, that means less money for the private buisnesses. Since the private buisnesses have the incentive to invest money c...
