Re: New Logo thread (any ideas)

I like the second attachment (2.jpg) one, the last one of the heads (the other is nice but a bit too vertical), and the first rabbit (with white/transparant inside of the circle) which is my favourite.

Re: Is the academy award committee unfair to black actors?

In what way? In being ill-informed about Israel's intentions, the bad thought experiment I talked about earlier (and in general the lack of proving of any history context by the way; this is not a high-quality analysis, but possibly not meant to be one anyway), in rattling on about the human shield...

Re: Is the academy award committee unfair to black actors?

This in itself is more complex. Civilians on the Israeli side are being protected, far from the conflict. To use the opposition's rhetoric, the civilians on the Palestinian side are like "human shields": not literally, but because the terrorists are hiding among the general civilian population to m...

Re: Jonathan Haidt

It kind of becomes your word against mine, so I won't try to rebut the main disagreement about compromise. Don't think it can get really productive unless quoting some of his work. I haven't read his book -- all I've discussed so far is based on what I've read about him from Joshua Greene which disc...

Re: Is the academy award committee unfair to black actors?

Volenta makes a great point about the politics of Israel, but I still think it's complicated -- not politically, but because of the differences between Israel and the Palestinian resistance. I don't think it's useful to discuss the amount of complexity of the conflict, so I'll leave it there. It's ...

Re: Jonathan Haidt

I don't think that's fair, rather a no true Scotsman. Why? Just correcting what his position is. Wasn't using it as an argument against his positions in the video. I do agree with him on the safe spaces-thing in the first video (haven't watched the others). He votes democrat, he believes in a progr...

Re: "Forum Raid"

I think atheist forums will probably have a lot of rational people. If only this were the case... Atheism and even talk about rationality and reason I'm sad to say doesn't say much in practice. There are reasonable and unreasonable people everywhere, religious (in which case they are one step behin...

Re: Empathy is bad

Empathy can be a force for good if properly used. Of course in reality this isn't always (maybe even scarcely) the case, so it's good to talk about how it could be directed in a way so that it becomes to good use. To single out empathy as a force of bad is provocative, but I think not useful. The pr...

Re: Jonathan Haidt

From what I've seen of him so far, he sounds like a great liberal voice against the regressive left (glad we don't have to rely completely on the right to call this stuff out) Except he isn't really a liberal. He's more of a centrist who has talked in one of his book (I believe it's called the righ...

Re: "The Rational Vegan" is anything but rational

I'm going to respond, mainly because I think you went a little bit too far here and there in your critism, not necessarily because I agree with them. 1. The deontological issue of equating Use to Abuse and "Exploitation" as inherently wrong without considering actual harmful consequences. 2. Fixatin...
