Re: Owning cats is not vegan

There are more important things for me to worry about than that. I’m pretty sure that only a very small number of animals are actually slaughtered for cat food versus human consumption? Fallacy of relative privation. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Not_as_bad_as I’m not really dismissing it as I wrot...

Re: Owning cats is not vegan

I don't really understand how owning cats can be considered vegan. Veganism is based on the idea that owning animals, even if we think consequences will be good, is wrong, right? Besides, like, if you actually care about reducing animal suffering, how can you take care of and feed that vicious and ...

Re: Is Honey Ethical?

Please stop suddenly “caring” about bees. If someone wants to avoid honey, why not? Just because some insects are pollination slaves for fruits, does that mean that a vegan should be okay eating both fruits (that exploits bees) AND honey (that exploits bees)? Obviously, fruits are harder to avoid, s...

Re: Is Honey Ethical?

Is it just because I'm vegan and honey is an animal product? Because that's not a valid reason. Why is that not a valid reason? I honestly would say that if you enjoyed the latte and get it sometimes, even if it does have honey, it’s not really that big of a deal. I’m sure something else you’re eat...

CHANGE MY MIND: Ethics of keeping an old dog alive at the expense of others

Is it really ethical to keep an older dog alive, not just for his sake, but at the expense of other animals' lives, too? As an example: Take a dog that I know; he's 18 years old, has been on medication for years (since he was 10- medication that has been tested on animals, surely), and is now taking...

Re: Thoughts on Singer’s Effective Altruism (Rethinking Vegan Advocacy)

I largely believe that for businesses/corporations, it is entirely effective to protest and use other means of pressure to make change. I know you’d like to focus on food, but I wanted to talk about fur quick- the fur industry has been on a high decline for years now with big designers going for fre...

Re: Lay Vegan's "#NameTheTrait is a Terrible Argument for Veganism" - Response

I mostly agree with Lay Vegan about the “Name the Trait” argument, but I think he’s still missing one major flaw. Premise 2 being “There is no trait absent in animals which if absent in humans that would cause us to deem ourselves valueless.” But what if I said the trait was “human” or “human genes?...

Re: Best Charities to Donate to?

I would donate to a small and/or local charity who is in more need of the money.

What is close to your heart? Do you want to help wildlife? Cat rescues? Farmed animal rescues? Fur campaigns? You can choose a different one every time you donate, of course!

Re: That angry vegan phase...

Yes I absolutely did! I was vegetarian since I was 9 and I went vegan when I was about 22 (I’m 26 now) and when I was a vegetarian I never acted like that. When I became vegan, however, I joined a bunch of vegan groups on Facebook and I was overwhelmed with the atrocities and saw how other vegans we...
