Re: Nuclear Energy in 2019

Unnatural Vegan recently uploaded a great video on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8_u5TqnznA I like that she addressed the confusion on relative vs. absolute risk of developing cancer from radiation exposure. Reminds me of the nutty vegans charging that people who eat processed meat have an ...

Re: Ecosia: Does it do anything?

I'm an active lurker on that forum and the Effective Altruism Forum. I haven't bothered registering an account because I've grown too accustomed to this site's interface (I know, I'm weird).

Re: Avoiding food obsession

Hi Hannah, Sounds like you’ve already made the appreciate steps toward recovery. :) brimstoneSalad’s advice in the other thread looks sound, and I’ll only add to avoid seeing veganism as a strict diet regimen and instead as a way to live and eat compassionately. Making the connection between sentien...

Re: My Actual Libertarian Experience

I'll have to read this debate from the start, but at least people are talking about Libertarianism. I mean, the American President is a reality star, Democrats don't seem to have a clear message about anything without infighting, but my party are the "crazy" ones. 😉 Good to have you back, I was afr...

Re: Rationality Rules is wrong (sort of). Thoughts on TransGate

Thanks guys. Jebus Would you opt to divide sports competitors by athletic skill (where both men and women of different skill tiers compete with one another)? I’m convinced that benchmark would introduce its own problems, as even skill can be acquired from unfair socio-economic advantages. E.g. rich ...

Re: What are you listening to?

This’ll sound very gen Z of me, but I’ve been listening mainly to rap and r&b music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI8cDhfSiNE I’ve realized that most of my preferred songs hover at around 119 bpm, which is considered a mid-slower tempo for the genre. It's slow enough to keep me calm and allow me ...

Re: Rationality Rules is wrong (sort of). Thoughts on TransGate

While RR’s video was poorly researched and lacking in some areas, there isn’t much evidence that supports the proposition either. That shouldn't really matter, because sports don't matter (or, at least the notion that there is some divine "fairness" that matters is absurd). Not only is there nothin...

Re: Vegan chalk challenge- worthwhile or a waste of time?

Depends on foot traffic and the general zeitgeist of the area. My city is quite small and moderately liberal, but chalking hasn't been very effective outside of attracting unwanted attention from security.

I do somewhat prefer it over leafleting, since it can be less intrusive.

Re: Rationality Rules is wrong (sort of). Thoughts on TransGate

About your first point, can we really completely discern man and woman purely by their blood testosterone levels? No. In regard to athletic performance however, circulating testosterone and hemoglobin levels largely account for the dichotomy between the sexes. There are other variables of course; s...
