Re: I'm Gonna Miss High School (For the most part)

Well, it's not just for any material benefit, it's just to push the boundry of human knowledge a tiny, tiny, TINY bit. It sounds like you’re in it for the right reasons. :) After your undergrad years, you’ll likely devote the next 5+ years of your life conducting extensive research & specialized tr...

Re: I'm Gonna Miss High School (For the most part)

Yep, I've been accepted and have received some pretty good scholarships. I'm planning on transferring to another school after I get my Bachelor's, since, although the school of my choice has all the programs I want, it doesn't have a PhD program for what I'm planning on majoring in. We'll see what ...

Re: I'm Gonna Miss High School (For the most part)

It’s great to hear that your experience has improved since your sophomore year. If you’re currently a senior, I assume you’ve already applied and been accepted to a university? If so, did you get into a university/program of your top choice? My high school years are a blur. I was quite timid and rar...

Re: howdy from a fledgling reducetarian

Welcome, pinkysaurusrawr It’s great to hear that you’ve committed to reduce to your animal product consumption. Most of us here fall along the reducetarian spectrum (some of us are farther along than others) but we all share the same goal. You can check-out Vegan Health.Org or The Vegan RD for evide...

Re: Soft Sciences Vs. Hard Sciences

I just want to clarify though; You do acknowledge that the social sciences are lacking in rigor, and until then, they can't serve a significant purpose in society. What I will concede is that social sciences make soft (mostly unreliable) predictions whereas the physical sciences make hard (reliable...

Re: Soft Sciences Vs. Hard Sciences

And since you brought up math, would you say it's a rule of thumb in science that the more math a discipline involves, the harder it is? Not necessarily, although to some extent this is true. It’s not only the presence of math that makes a science “hard” or “soft” but the reliability of the math. I...

Re: What were your favourite films of 2018?

Here are mine: 1. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Is Black Mirror a Netflix original? I might check that out, since I love psychological horror. Actually, I prefer anthology series like The Twilight Zone or American Horror Story (and occasionally American Crime Story). But I love my films too. One of my...

Re: Psychological/virtue ethics approach at getting past the 'I don't care' response.

NonZeroSum It sounds more like you’re arguing some kind of vegan-like virtue ethics from a consequentialist framing. In the case of animal agriculture/veganism, adopting x virtues equals greater outcomes (reduced environmental harm, less animal suffering, increased energy efficiency, reduced risk o...

Re: Open Letter To....

Dear seller on eBay who procures his listed items only after they’ve sold, Why do you waste everyone’s time doing this when you could easily list the item as pre-sale? That way you’d have within like, 30 days after the date of the purchase to obtain your client’s item and have it shipped. But why li...

I added that quote to his signature and gave him a special rank, so people at least know what kind of person they're dealing with.
