Re: Eating an oyster as bad as eating a cow?

Yesterday I heard at the TV a comedian making fun of vegans with, you know, the typical unfunny kind of clichés, and I found ironic that he mentioned in his show oysters poured with lemon juice considering it's the kind of animal that actually may not fall under the minimum criteria for ethical cons...

Re: Another anti-vegan article in French. Your thoughts?

I've found a Twitter discussion with many claims similar to those in my first post here and it raised so many red flags that I'd like to use it as an example of dubious pro-animal agriculture claims. Link: https://twitter.com/_eleanorina/status/1051654911199469568 cows, ruminants in gen’l, are a key...

Re: Sustainable building materials

I think you have your chemistry mixed up a bit, the CO2 comes from the heated calcium carbonate used to make cement, which is a component of most concrete (it's what binds the aggregates, like sand, together). And I think you misunderstood my post because the chemistry of cement production was exac...

Re: SJWs who don't do shit to improve the world

What do you mean by sacrifices to protect women and minorities? Just not being mean to them? This could be any personal inconvenience that would help women or minorities avoid bigotry. Such could include: Making an anonymous donation to a charity in support of such a group. Putting yourself at risk...

Sustainable building materials

There are several things we can do to improve the sustainability of our world and slow down climate change. The three things I advocate for the most are: switching to plant-based diet (comes with the hugely beneficial side effect of lowering immensely cruel animal suffering); expand low-carbon energ...

Re: SJWs who don't do shit to improve the world

I'm not sure to understand the purpose of this. What do you mean by sacrifices to protect women and minorities? Just not being mean to them? Is it about presenting the hypocrisy of people who do social justice advocacy while still harassing women and minorities themselves? But if it's just about moc...

Re: Ducks in rice fields to boost production?

That's interesting if there's a superior alternative to raising animals to boost production. Good point about risks of contamination, I have not thought about that but it suggests there are inherent problems with using animals besides welfare, at least when fertilization from their poop is involved....

Ducks in rice fields to boost production?

Okay I'll try to summarize what I wrote that got deleted by a combination of crappy internet connection where I am and the lack of my computer so I can only use my phone at the moment which resulted in the deletion of a wall of text without it being saved by a draft. Basically I found a post that ch...

Re: Sentience is meaningless. Sapience is what matters.

Welcome to the forum! This can be an interesting discussion, considering from the cognitive abilities of animals we can derivate different interests: for example I doubt that non-human animals have what we would define a "dream" in the sense number 1 objective animals would want to realize in their ...

How sustainable lichen-derived vitamin D3 is?

You probably already know that there's vitamin D3 commercially available that's not derived from sheep's wool, rather being extracted from some species of lichen. However, I wanted to be sure about how sustainable lichen-derived is and compare it to sheep-derived D3, as I had a gut feeling that mayb...
