Re: My Actual Libertarian Experience

Do you think Smith would likely disagree with modern libertarians’ axiom of natural rights? I wonder if Smith would accept the non-aggression principle? This is where I believe modern libertarians are wrong. They understand freedom almost exclusively in terms of freedom from government, not recogni...

Re: My Actual Libertarian Experience

PhilRisk Well, I didn't mean utopia in the colloquial sense, I meant it more like in the 'things are as they should be sense.' I know we wasn't a *super* hardcore libertarian like some people are, but he almost definitely wanted minimal government as possible in regards to capitalism. I think Smith...

Re: Sustainable building materials

One can use recycled concrete. But this only reduces the need for sand and rocks, because fresh cement is needed as glue. There are some attempts to change the production of concrete by changing the chemical procedure (different recipe steamed at only 190°C), but these are still in research. Plans f...

Re: My Actual Libertarian Experience

Adam Smith had interesting ideas for how a free-market would create a utopian-like society, but it just doesn't work, or it just doesn't work for the benefit of all. Is Adam Smith regularly read as proclaiming, that free-market, leads to a utopia? This interpretation seems to be not really adequate...

Re: The 'Green New Deal' is Stupid, Grade-A Counterproductive Bullshit

But still the effect on temperature in the high emission scenario is fairly low (roughly 0.2K at 2100) in case of giving up roughly 17% of cropland. To be effective it needs land-use change. https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1002/2016GL068824 Fig. 1&2 are of special interest as the...

Re: The 'Green New Deal' is Stupid, Grade-A Counterproductive Bullshit

This technology is way more effective than forestation, which does not have a substantial climate impact as it also changes the albedo, but this is a different story. I can provide further information if you are interested. More information would be good. Reforestation absorbs quite a bit of carbon...

Re: The 'Green New Deal' is Stupid, Grade-A Counterproductive Bullshit

The trouble with carbon capture is it works best at the flue, so at best you're basically bringing fossil fuels down in emissions closer to nuclear. Is it more realistic to advance adding carbon capture to fossil fuels? Sure. And I think we should do that, along with promoting nuclear power and use...

Re: The 'Green New Deal' is Stupid, Grade-A Counterproductive Bullshit

The hole debate about the Green New Deal is somewhat skewed here. The main impetus of it is to entangle social measures with climate action and big government investments. The economic mainstream alternative is basically something like a carbon tax. Which has been prominently demanded by economists:...

To the one's concerned. It may be hard to identify the Green New Deal. Here is some information about the discussion within the Democratic party: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/2/11/18220163/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-green-new-deal-faq-tucker-carlson And the green new deal resolution wi...

Re: "Unnatural" don't exist.

But a human makes a poo in the woods... and that steamy morsel is 100% unnatural? I think the concept of "unnatural" is somewhat more subtle, than the definition by human origin. Poo is natural, because it is natural to poo (other animals do it as well), but a clock (as a prototypical example) is u...
