Re: is eating eggs ethical?

I forgot to add: because "Unnatural Vegan" is not advocating for the consumption of eggs and dairy, the nutritional information in her videos is still useful, even if you don't agree with her "tentative vegan" ethical views.

Re: is eating eggs ethical?

"Unnatural Vegan" seems to be a so-called "tentative vegan", which means that while she believes it is possible in theory to acquire eggs and dairy in an ethical manner, in practice for most of us it is not feasible (eg. we must rely on unethical egg and dairy industries), and so with no way to guar...

Re: How do you change dietary preference?

Re: Francis from Costa Rica in Central America

So I've gone ahead and listened to Yourofsky's best speech ever ... Here are my main qualms with him...: • Like brimstoneSalad pointed out, his pride and willingness to violate the law shines a negative light on veganism. His violation of the law, even if it led to the rescue of some animals, likel...

Re: Francis from Costa Rica in Central America

The other thing about Yourofsky is that he has seen a lot of animal cruelty up close first hand due to his activism, and I think this has really affected him (eg. evidenced by his misanthropic rants and reclusiveness), and my heart goes out to him. Dr Melanie Joy talks about Secondary Traumatic Stre...

Re: Francis from Costa Rica in Central America

Yes, though I must note that my judgement is based upon my trust in the general consensus of the forum and not my own analysis. What resources do you think are the most important to consider when making this judgement? ... Deontological, referring to deontology- the field of ethics which judges the...

Do you consider Yourofsky's approach to be deontological? May I ask how you are defining that term?

Re: Francis from Costa Rica in Central America

If you watch Gary Yourofsky's Best Speech Ever on YouTube, it should cure you of any desire to eat cheese or other dairy products ever again :-)

Re: Going vegan

None of this was really planned :-) Maybe 3 months ago I started reducing my consumption of meat and cow's milk, which was an attempt to be healthier/lose weight, and also due to to a growing concern about the ethics of eating animals (being an atheist, it was natural to ponder questions of morality...
