Re: Designing a study on outreach method

I have suggested a design where the same questions are asked both before and after the intervention to see if there has been an effect. The baseline would therefore be the results from the first questionnaire. Do you mean the questions would only be asked immediately after the intervention? If so, ...

Re: Vegan in London UK

Hi Trish, welcome!
Do you have any recommendations for a couple of nice vegan places to go out to while in London? That'd be helpful since there are too many options to choose from (not that I'm complaining).

Re: On Fish Suffering

If consciousness and pain are contingent on the possession of a neocortex, then many other non-mammalian animals, like birds and octopuses, would be rendered “not conscious. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17475053 Consciousness without a cerebral cortex: a challenge for neuroscience and medici...

Re: Depression and Friends

I am going to start a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program and am looking into Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I generally find myself not trusting psychiatric professionals with anything but medicine (which I am taking), so I expect that this will be difficult. Hi Cirion, I'm sorry you're dealing wi...

Re: Is taxation theft?

It really does make sense that if you wish to "own" a piece of land, you are taking something from the community that is of value. So the larger your piece of land, the more you should compensate the community for it. I agree, and not only because it sounds more just in theory, but because the ince...

Re: Is taxation theft?

How should land ownership and taxes be ideally dealt with? (roughly, you don't have to get too specific right now. I promise not to go into a Libertarian rant if you don't go into a Socialist one. ;) ) I actually support something in the direction of the land value tax, but I haven't figured out ev...

Re: Daughter and I mended our relationship.

inator - I think this is an interesting discussion, but I think we should create a new topic to discuss it, given that this topic is specifically about deadeye's family relationship. That is, if you want to keep discussing it. I think it's a good idea to take the debate elsewhere. Feel free to resp...

Re: Is taxation theft?

I think that's a valid point, but should it be taken into consideration how much land one claims to own? Yes, the amount and quality of the land (i.e. the demand for it). For instance, a rich man having a thousand acres of land, vs. a modest person with a small home on a 1/4 acre lot. Sure, but the...

Re: Is taxation theft?

To answer the initial question, I'd say it doesn't matter too much. Owning land and what exists naturally in/on the land is technically just as much a form of theft as taxation. Let's say that owning land (and anything you haven't created yourself through labor), or exploiting and polluting the air ...

[...] don't say "who cares about lead, think of the animals". Don't worry, this is not that kind of forum. I personally use iodized salt and my multi contains some iodine too. I also don't avoid seaweed too obsessively, because from my understanding (although I haven't done extensive research on th...
